As a HALO Flight Reliability Engineer, you will directly impact the development of the Deep Space Gateway and future exploration of the universe.

The HALO Flight Reliability team coordinates launch readiness of the vehicle and verifies flight readiness. The Flight Reliability team supports anomaly investigations and drives continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned from previous HEO programs such as Cygnus. The Flight Reliability Team works with numerous disciplines to ensure mission success for both the vehicle and crew.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for assessing pre-flight risks and potential mitigations with vehicle design, analysis, and operations teams, as well as communicating these risks to engineering leadership and NASA

  • Lead pre-flight readiness reviews during launch campaigns to verify all pre-flight risks are mitigated appropriately, launch site issues are dispositioned and verified, and critical pre-flight testing and review activities are completed

  • During flight, support mission operations to investigate observations or anomalies and make clear recommendations to engineering leadership and mission operators for real-time or future actions

  • Work with design and analysis groups to review data, anomalies and observations • Lead root cause investigations of significant in-flight anomalies and drive corrective actions

  • Communicate the overall performance of the vehicle relative to the mission objectives to internal and external customers

  • Work with the HEO organization to implement lessons learned to develop the HALO vehicle.

This position can be filled in one of the following locations:

Dulles, VA, Merritt Island, FL, Gilbert, AZ, Houston, TX or Redondo Beach, CA

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 7+ years of experience in a related or equivalent role

  • Experience completing reliability predictions

  • Experience completing Failure modes effect analysis (FMEA)

  • Experience performing Fault Tree Analysis

  • Windchill Risk and Reliability Software experience

  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment Experience

  • Work with statistical data analysis

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in an engineering related field

  • Experience with multi-system engineering design

  • Programming experience in MATLAB, JavaScript, Python, C or SQL

  • Ability to perform trade studies using engineering fundamentals to assess risk and make clear recommendations

  • Demonstrated capability solving complex problems on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team

  • Familiarity with common aerospace instrumentation (e.g. pressure transducers / RTD's)

  • Knowledge of relevant aerospace design and test specifications, such as SMC-S-016, NASA-STD-5009, AIAA-S-080, and NASA-STD-5017

  • Experience with human spaceflight and NASA Safety Review Process, including DSG-RQMT-001

Salary Range: $142,500.00 - $247,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
