A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Conservation Biology, Range and Wildlife Management or closely related field.

Must have excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and be technically current. Must have experience with range and wildlife habitat management and monitoring techniques.

Must have excellent verbal communication and writing skills; experience with project and data management; demonstrated skills in leadership. Seeking an enthusiastic team player who is willing to work in a multidisciplinary program.

Preferred

Advanced degree in Conservation Biology, Range and Wildlife Management or closely related field. Ability to work with landowners to develop, implement, maintain and revise conservation and wildlife management plans.

Knowledge of general farm and ranching practices in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas, and their impacts on wildlife species and their habitats. Skill in communication with landowners, conservation partners and the general public. Experience implementing and evaluating rangeland monitoring projects.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Candidate will provide technical support for the Stewardship Services Program of Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University.

Primary duties include providing land management guidance and opportunities to landowner partners when evaluating and planning habitat restoration or enhancement activities. Candidate will coordinate directly with BRI faculty and staff (and other conservation partners) to effectively leverage available resources for conservation efforts on private lands in far west Texas.

Candidate will implement and manage associated monitoring activities, synthesize associated results, and prepare relevant outreach materials. Additional duties will include coordinating outreach activities such as stakeholder meetings, workshops, and conferences. Candidate will also coordinate guest lecture opportunities, and assist with relevant labs and field days. Continuation of this position is dependent on extramural funding, and some grant writing/management duties are also expected in this position.

Received: Reports to the Associate director of Stewardship Services, Borderlands Research Institute.

Given: Oversees initiative-specific efforts from administrative and field staff.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
