Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 with the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat homeowners help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable, no-interest mortgage.

The houses are built at no profit, and the money generated from the mortgages is used to fund the building of other homes. AmeriCorps members are one of the groups of volunteers that help Habitat homeowners achieve strength, stability and independence through safe, decent and affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity International hosts both the AmeriCorps National and AmeriCorps VISTA programs, with Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country.
