Job Description
Performs intermediate skilled work teaching and coaching gymnastic skills and routines; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the Gymnastics Head Coach/Team Coordinator.
Examples of Duties
Instructs and coaches gymnastics skills and routines for developmental, Xcel Bronze, Silver, Level 1-4 gymnasts
Instructs skills and routines to all levels of United States of America Gymnastics (USAG) athletes;
Trains gymnasts in strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, endurance, and coordination;
Develops routines on all gymnastics apparatus;
Instructs all levels of recreational fee classes as needed;
Supervises assigned area of facility;
Interprets program curriculum orally and visually to students and parents;
Ensures that safety precautions are observed in all activities;
Reports to Gymnastics Head Coach/Team Coordinator orally and in writing on activities, groups, individuals, plans or problems;
Carefully plans combinations and routines for USAG competitive levels;
Choreographs optional level routines;
Teaches correct spotting techniques;
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of USAG rules and policies, Level 1-4 routines, Xcel Bronze/Silver requirements and coaching techniques; general knowledge of child behavior; ability to teach all USAG levels and choreograph optional routines for bars, beam and floor.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by several years participatory experience in USAG, high school or college level gymnastics; considerable experience teaching and /or coaching gymnastics skills and techniques.
Member of USAG; USAG Safety Certified; certified in CPR and First Aid. Valid Virginia driver's license required.
