Position Title: Guidance Counselor, James Monroe High School - Anticipated Hire Based on BOE Approval of Current Employee's Resignation.
Job Description: To work under the direction of the principal to provide comprehensive guidance and scheduling (including testing as required to students in grades 9-12).
Qualifications: See attached.
Salary: Base Salary $47,101 - 215 days (Salary based on experience and education level per Monroe County BOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation)
Effective Date: 2024-2025 School Year

SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR/HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL
Reports to: Principal
Basic Function:
The guidance counselor at the high school level provides a service designed to aid students directly, as well as to assist the teaching staff, parents, and the community.
He/she will help students in the development of his/her talents and interests.
The counselor will aid teachers in the diagnosis of the students learning difficulties, if any, and early use of available resources to meet student's needs.
Work under director of principal to provide comprehensive guidance and scheduling (including testing as required to students in grades 9-12.
Representative Duties:
Works with high school administrative staff in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the guidance programs.
Provide counseling services for all students.
Develop procedures for orientation of new students.
Discover and assist those students who appear to be in the greatest need of immediate attention.
Determine special needs of some pupils and, after conferring with parents, principal and other involved school personnel, make referrals to specialized community agencies or individuals.
Maintain an effective cumulative record system.
In cooperation with principal, teachers, maintain a continuous evaluation of the standardized testing procedure.
Qualifications
This position will be filled with the most qualified applicant pursuant to the criteria set forth in WV Code §18A-4-7a based upon the following minimum qualifications.
Hold a valid West Virginia Guidance Counselor certificate at appropriate programmatic level (9-12).
Successful completion of interview process as determined by the Superintendent and/or interview committee.
West Virginia Department Of Education
