MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) serves close to 6 million subway customers and 2.3 million bus customers on an average weekday. Its 50,000 employees provide mass transit and paratransit service throughout the five boroughs of New York City, including operating almost 7,000 subway cars at 472 stations.

The NYC Transit Department of Subways employs 30,000 individuals who work together 24/7, 365 days a year, to move millions of customers safely to their destinations. These employees operate trains, maintain railcars, assist customers in stations, make critical right-of-way or electronic repairs, and provide administrative support to deliver timely and reliable customer services.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $77,463 - $122,442

Compression minimum: $115,240

(Grade F/ 516 points) - Represented by UTLO

Responsibilities:

The Department of Subways is seeking dynamic, customer-focused leaders for the role of Group Station Superintendent (GSS) in the Division of Station Environment & Operations. The Group Station Superintendent will have front-line, direct accountability for the safe, efficient, timely and customer-focused execution of functions related to the operation, cleaning and of a group of subway stations.

The GSS will assign and direct staff responsible for providing clean, safe, well-maintained and readily accessible subway stations with accurate, real-time travel and fare information. Select Group Station Superintendents will be dedicated to heavy duty washing and specialized cleaning of stations.

The selected candidate will execute, monitor and report to senior management on goals to improve performance levels in underperforming stations; manage hourly and supervisory personnel to ensure the safety and cleanliness of stations; and provide employees with direction regarding compliance with NYCT rules, regulations, effective labor relations and personnel policies.

The GSS will also provide direction to staff and work with senior management to establish specific scopes of work and performance accountability measures to achieve production goals. In addition, the successful candidate will coordinate the management of emergencies, unusual occurrences, snow removal efforts and other special events by assigning appropriate staff.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and five (5) years of full-time related experience; of which two (2) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; Or

A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Desired Skills:

Knowledge of the environment, organization and operation of rail transportation systems and station operations.

Knowledge of automated fare collection, construction trades and ADA regulations.

Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures including OSHA regulations.

Ability to effectively manage a group of employees in a fast paced and highly customer focused environment.

Excellent customer service and public relations skills.

Knowledge of safety principles and experience working in an environment where safety is a key component.

Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels in the organization, including represented employees.

Excellent public relations, verbal and written communication skills.

Selection Method:

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.

Other Information:

As an employee of MTA-NYC Transit, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $105,472 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
