The Position

We seek an experienced and highly motivated senior biologist to join our growing drug discovery team. The individual will be responsible for target validation and preclinical proof-of-concept work supporting novel therapies for pulmonary and cardiometabolic disease, cancer, pathological fibrosis and other indications. Areas of responsibility will include preclinical validation of novel drug targets by establishing evidence of selective on-target drug activity and disease modification in animal models. The ideal candidate has experience in drug discovery / lead optimization and a strong understanding of the molecular biology of mammalian gene expression, RNAi and oligonucleotide therapeutics, with core competencies in correlating changes in gene expression with disease-modifying activity in vivo. The individual will be responsible for independent experimental design and execution, data analysis and communication.

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology or a related discipline

  • Minimum of 6 years hands-on experience in early drug development research; industrial (biotech or pharma) or translational research experience

  • Excellent problem-solving skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to translate cutting edge research into drug development programs

  • Successfully collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and managers (biology, physiology, chemistry, toxicology, clinical, manufacturing)

  • Ability to lead and direct the daily activities of associate scientists

  • Experience working with contract research organizations and building relationships with academic collaborators

  • Ability to remain productive, organized and flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced cross-disciplinary environment

  • Preclinical translational biology experience in de-risking novel drug targets through mechanistic and disease-modifying proof of concept studies
