Definition

Under general supervision by the Group Home Manager in the Social Services Department, responds to the emotional, social and physical needs of the residents in multiple group home settings for youths from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Examples of Tasks

Tasks:

1.Group Home Operations: Manages the overall operations of assigned Group Homes and provides staff supervision and leadership.

  • Serves on an "on call" basis and provides coverage for other staff when necessary.

  • Supervises children and youth in residential settings.

  • Models appropriate behavior and attitude for staff and residents.

  • Coordinates information and activities with child and youth Case Workers as needed.

  • Documents client information.

  • Maintains confidential records and files.

  • Conducts and participates in staffing activities for the Group Home Program.

  • Manages the behavior modification program, if necessary, and arranges in-service training for staff.

  • Stays current and informed regarding Group Home events, happenings, incidents and that written reports are submitted as required.

2.Leadership & Workflow: Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence and ethical behavior.

  • Provides leadership including planning, coordinating and conducting staff meetings.

  • Coordinates employee work schedules and assigns workers on various shifts and assignments as well as supervising staff.

  • Ensures that shift duties including, but not limited to, logs, reports and staff attendance are maintained in a timely and organized manner.

  • Evaluates staff performance and program effectiveness.

  • Maintains and allocates adequate resources of the Group Home staff.

  • Conducts hiring, disciplinary actions and termination processes in accordance with approved SRPMIC and Group Home Standard Operating Procedures.

3.Safety & Logistics: Ensures a clean and safe environment is maintained in the Group Homes.

  • Provides for maintenance of buildings, grounds and housekeeping functions.

  • Ensures the physical environment is monitored for safety, cleanliness and attractive appearance.

  • Purchases food and supplies as needed.

4.Administration & Budgeting: Completes forms, logs and reports on a daily basis. Gathers and compiles data.

  • Writes and submits reports.

  • Monitors timelines, accuracy and appropriateness of all activities.

  • Investigates, logs and reports all incident reports.

  • Conducts environmental inspections, prepares audit reports and provides feedback.

  • Prepares budgets and participates in the annual budget review process and other budgetary meetings throughout the fiscal year as needed.

5.Miscellaneous: Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental and program operations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision including training, counseling, and performance evaluations.

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for counseling youth and their families.

  • Knowledge of concepts and practices for the care and treatment of youths at risk, particularly the problems of Native American youths.

  • Knowledge of resources within, and outside, the Community that may be utilized in the program.

  • Knowledge of standard procedures for law enforcement agencies and courts relating to youths/juveniles.

  • Knowledge of Behavior Management Techniques and how to use them with youths.

  • Skill with case management including, but not limited to, planning, scheduling, time management, maintaining client confidentiality and crisis intervention.

  • Skill evaluating client needs and assessing progress in the program.

  • Skill providing counseling to individuals, groups and families.

  • Skill evaluating staff performance and analyzing program effectiveness.

  • Skill promoting program objectives, developing measurable outcomes and providing services in accordance with program objectives.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with SRPMIC co-workers, resource agencies, law enforcement and court personnel, Tribal officials, Community Members and youths/juveniles.

  • Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles including the 15 passenger van.

  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as required by program needs.

  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines and personal computers in order to fulfill job requirements.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare appropriate budgets or reports as required.

  • Ability to perform CPR and First Aid.

  • Ability to use recreation equipment as well as standard equipment found in a kitchen.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology or closely related field is required.

  • Three (3) years full time professional work experience in programs with children/youth in a residential setting or therapeutic program is required.

  • Two (2) years of administrative/management experience within a group home or residential program is required.

  • The following certifications are required:

  • Certified in CPR and First Aid

  • Certified Child Care Worker from a nationally recognized institute.

  • Certified in a nationally recognized behavior management program.

Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job will be considered when filling the position.

Underfill Eligibility:An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

Special Requirements

  • May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation may be required.

  • Must meet the physical requirements of performing CPR and First Aid.

  • Employees in, and applicants applying for, jobs providing direct services to children are subject to the "Community Code of Ordinances", Chapter 11, "Minors", Article X. "Investigation of Persons Working With Children".

Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
