Do you have Group Health and or/ Medicare experience? If you're a group health expert or have a wealth of knowledge in Medicare - then we have a position for you! Our positions are 1099 contract roles with short-term temporary assignments that provide supplemental income only. The assignments are on an as needed basis, and demand varies throughout the year. English speaking and bilingual educators are needed to conduct employee meetings, webinars and benefit fairs in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.

  • Please note - To be considered, you can have either Group Health or Medicare experience. If you're well versed in both, it's a plus! To qualify for Medicare, you must hold an active Health/Accident/Sickness state insurance license.

Group Health/Medicare Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable of the employee benefits/Medicare industry including recent updates/legislation/changes

  • Establish and maintain good, professional relationships with employer and client contacts

  • Educate employees/retirees on all aspects of their health plan and/or ancillary benefits

  • Be comfortable presenting to small and medium groups of people with Q&A sessions

  • Complete client required certifications if applicable (Medicare Only)

Group Health/Medicare Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience explaining employee benefits with a background in benefits and/or insurance

  • Have an active residential Health/Accident/Sickness state insurance license (Medicare Specific)

  • Medicare background is preferred but not required

  • Flexible schedule with the ability to take short notice assignments

  • Able to work in an indoor or outdoor environment

  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft PowerPoint experience

  • Experience with presenting via telepresence (webinar) technology desired

  • Ability to occasionally carry boxes up to 20lbs or stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to travel up to 200 miles and/or travel by air to other states is a plus

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest health system in the nation, providing compassionate, quality care through its integrated system of hospitals and community-based clinics. DHS annually cares for about 600,000 unique patients, employs over 22,000 staff and has an annual operating budget of $4.3 billion. DHS leads the County's effort to provide health services to the residents of Los Angeles County, of which approximately two million are uninsured. DHS hospitals also conduct post-graduate medical education through university affiliations for interns, residents and fellows to train the physician workforce for tomorrow. MISSION Our mission is to ensure access to high-quality, patient-centered, cost-effective health care to Los Angeles County residents through direct services at DHS facilities and through collaboration with community and university partners. DEFINITION: Plans, implements, directs, coordinates, and evaluates community health education programs in a specific health subject within an assigned service planning area. Essential Job Functions Determines community needs for public health education programs through investigation and evaluation of factors such as available health resources, communication systems, political and socio-cultural influences, housing, and the levels of income and education of the service planning area residents. Establishes priorities for the solution of community health education problems by planning and developing public health education programs through the application of health education methods and procedures, and in collaboration with targeted communities. Assists community-based organizations, medical providers, schools, public health personnel, and other County departments in recognizing and evaluating conditions contributing to poor health, planning program activities, selecting and utilizing public and private health resources, and motivating others in the community to lead and participate in improving their health status. Implements health education programs by utilizing broad ranges of methods and techniques in collaboration with service planning area, county-wide programs, academia, and target communities to meet the public health needs through activities such as developing and and disseminating health education materials and speaking to groups on health related topics. Meets and contacts a variety of community stakeholders such as teachers, community group leaders, health officers, public health nurses, social workers, and others at various levels in the community in order to gain their support and cooperation in planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating health education programs, and in coordinating their related health education program activities. Maintains contact with public and private agencies, community organizations, and professional groups to enlist community participation and support for health education activities in a service planning area. Provides expertise in health education methods by collaborating with service planning area staff to develop and conduct patient health education programs and in-service education programs for service planning area personnel. Coordinates the volunteer activities within a service planning area by recruiting volunteers, maintaining records of volunteer participation, and coordinating volunteer recognition programs. Evaluates whether health education programs meet objectives and adequately impact the target population's knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, practices, and behaviors by utilizing appropriate data collection methods such as pre and post-examinations, focus groups, surveys, and questionnaires, and by measuring the attendance at events in response to publicity campaigns and ultimately, the improvement of those conditions among service planning area residents which require the participation of a Health Educator. Refers to evaluation findings and community input for future program planning and policy development. Evaluates the literacy levels of target population and the appropriateness of resource materials. Advises Area Health Officers and other administrative staff in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health education priorities for the service planning area. Oversee the activities of Health Education Assistants or other non-professional staff as needed. Recruit and oversee undergraduate and graduate health education students for internships or practicum for a specific program or service planning area as needed. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: California Law requires a Master's* Degree from a program of study accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health with specialization in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, or equivalent. LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the desirable qualification in excess of the Minimum Requirements. * Experience providing health education services to women of reproductive age, focusing on subjects such as contraceptive methods, family planning, prenatal and postpartum care, and sexually transmitted diseases. * Experience providing health education services to the adult patient population in health centers and clinics, focusing on chronic disease self-management.
