The Group Exercise Instructor (GEI) directly impacts member retention by providing a positive studio experience. This is accomplished through rapport, thoughtful group coaching and effective management of all studio logistics.

The Group Exercise Instructor role achieves success through embodying our core competencies (Create the TSI Environment, Build a High Performing Team, Achieve Measurable Results).

Create the TSI Environment

Models the core attributes of a successful employee with the utmost integrity, lives the mission and empowers others to do the same; focused on building meaningful relationships with members, their kids and team members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Modeling and promoting the 4 Clubhouse Rules.

  • Adhering to all TSI policies and procedures including, but not limited to timeliness, codes of conduct, dress and timekeeping.

  • Create a welcoming environment by greeting returning participants and always welcoming new participants.

  • Ensure class coverage when unavailable to teach.

Build a High Performing Team

Actively facilitates self and team member development; constantly seeking new ways to build skills and competency; elevates the brand experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching group exercises classes that are safe, effective, fun, and motivating for members.

  • Ensuring the studio is free of clutter.

  • Choosing music selections that are appropriate for the class format.

  • Ensuring all necessary equipment is present in the group exercise studio and notify the manager if additional supplies or equipment are required.

  • Responding to member feedback with timeliness.

Achieve Measurable Results

Meets and exceeds company goals and metrics surrounding employees and members; never satisfied with the status quo.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining appropriate certifications for class delivery.

  • Attending regular club meetings to understand environmental needs.

  • Actively promoting class participation.


Required Skills and Experience

  • TSI approved certification for any class being taught.

  • AED/CPR Certification.

  • Physical demands include ability to walk through all areas of clubs, repetitive squatting, bending and lifting (e.g., 40 60 lbs.), restacking of weights, moving of equipment as necessary and ability to demonstrate other exercise movements as part of a personal fitness workout.

VIEW JOBS 1/17/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-17T00:00 Overview The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is hiring Group Exercise Instructors who are responsible for providing quality fitness programs designed to meet the needs of the community. Responsibilities * Instruct with sound principles and expert skills in the area(s) of special certification such as Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Cycle, and other specialty certifications as required to a diverse group of individuals. * Be available to commit to instruct classes on quarterly schedule. * Must teach and model all fitness industry safety standards. * Create programs geared to individual and group needs. * Provide participant guidance for development. * Critique and give feedback to participants regarding individual progress. * Must complete a minimum of two continuing education credits per year and keep certifications current. Expense is at the cost of the employee. * Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for renewing their certifications within 90 days of expiration to avoid being removed from the schedule. All new certifications must be given to the manager. * Assure music selection adheres to mission of the Salvation Army. * Observe classes taught by other instructors to provide feedback and suggestions on how to improve quality of instruction. * Employee must give at minimum a two-week notice (if feasible) for any changes to their scheduled class (s). * Ensure dance studio, cycle room, or class room is left in clean manner after each class. Instructor is responsible discarding any trash, paper towels, or gym wipes left on equipment or floor. Instructor is responsible for reporting any major spills or hazardous Qualifications * High School GED required * Bachelor's degree preferred in a related field of study * Must have at least one year of experience in teaching group exercise classes. * Must be certified through ACE, ACSM, or other approved nationally accredited organization. * Must have an Associate's degree or nationally recognized group exercise certification in area of instruction at date of hire. * Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aide certification within first 30 days of employment. * Must have ability to work and relate well with people. * Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs. * Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army. * Must be in good physical, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs. * Must be able to communicate effectively in English. * Must be able to speak before large and small groups.
