Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director and Swim Lesson Coordinator, the Swim Instructor position is responsible for providing swim lessons that create a safe, friendly and secure atmosphere for members and participants.

Position Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teach 25 minute group, private and semi-private swim lessons to children of all ages and ability levels.

  • Teach 50 minute group lessons to adults of all ages and ability levels.

  • Communicate with Swim Lesson Coordinator on a consistent basis for scheduling purposes.

  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings.

  • Provide feedback and areas of improvement to swim lesson participants to help guide them through their swimming journey.

  • Facilitate swim tests to children in order to place them in desired level.

  • Represent the LMU Campus Recreation department in and around the pool area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Typically a Bachelor's degree.

  • Knowledge of water hazards, pool safety, lifesaving techniques and first aid; principles and techniques of swimming and lifesaving; and appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

  • Exhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university. Communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct. Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.

Required Education:

Minimum 2 years' experience as a Swim Instructor.


License/Certification/Registration

Requirements:
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certifications; or

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instruction Certification preferred.
