Groundwork RI Data and Communications VISTA

Groundwork Rhode Island is a non-profit, community-based environmental organization dedicated to making physical improvements in the urban environment that also create economic resources for lower-income people. We achieve this through our many urban stewardship programs, which provide jobs and job training for residents while physically improving our shared urban environment.

Currently we are leading a number of urban tree planting projects across the state, employing both youth and adults in planting and maintenance activities through our Green Team Youth and GroundCorp Landscape programs. We are seeking a VISTA to help increase the effectiveness and capacity of our tree planting efforts, primarily by developing processes to better track tree planting and maintenance activities, as well as developing systems, trainings, and materials to increase the number of local residents able to perform maintenance. The VISTA will also support other resident outreach and engagement activities related to trees and environmental education.

These activities will support our GroundCorp landscape and Green Team youth programs, allowing Groundwork RI to better manage our tree planting work, create efficiencies, and ensure the long-term survival of trees planted in lower-income communities to build climate resilience. Member Duties : 1) Design systems and methods to track tree planting and maintenance activities in lower-income communities 2) Develop trainings, communication materials, and methods to engage local residents and train them as volunteers in tree maintenance 3) Research and advise on project management systems that will better coordinate Groundwork RI's tree planting and maintenance activities among various staff and track outcomes.
