A Day in the Life:

As our Groundskeeper, you will be expected to perform the landscaping duties and tend to the up keeping of the grounds and amenities of the apartment community. While setting high standards for performance and beautification, your role will maintain the look and impression the property delivers from the exterior. Utilizing current landscaping skills and applying techniques to portray a luxurious and inviting community are the keys to your success.

What You'll Do:

  • Keep property and landscaping clean by inspecting property each morning and picking up any trash or debris littering the grounds

  • Clean pool area--hose down area, pick up trash, straighten chairs, etc.

  • Creating a well-kept look and safe environment

  • Trimming and pruning trees and shrubs for safety

  • Thorough knowledge of equipment functions

  • Ensure all equipment is in working condition

  • Understand layout of the property and awareness of landscaping items

  • Communicate with the Service Supervisor about unsafe or hazardous environments on the property

  • Exceptional safety skills

Work involves caring for and maintaining the appearance of grounds and gardens and maintaining and repairing groundskeeping tools, supplies, and equipment. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Oversees and/or performs grounds keeping work, such as mowing and trimming grass and trimming, fertilizing, watering, removing, and planting trees and shrubs. Oversees the removal of dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds. Oversees and/or performs repair and preventive maintenance work on parking lots, roads, and sidewalks. Oversees the mixing, spraying, or spreading of fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders. Oversees the upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features. Operates powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain-saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning shears. Services, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on groundskeeping equipment. Drives trucks and hauls materials, supplies, dirt, and office furniture. May perform landscaping work. May assist in installing or repairing sprinkler systems. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Performs related work as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass; of pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides; and of hand and power tools and equipment. Skilled in the use of groundskeeping hand tools and equipment, in the operation of motorized and gas-operated equipment, and in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks and parking lots. Ability to maintain and care for hand and power tools and equipment, to detect diseases in plants and grasses, and to train others. Registration or Licensure Requirements: Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy Initial Selection Criteria: High School Diploma or equivalent Valid State Issued Driver's License Additional Information: Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
