The groundskeeper ensures that the baseball field is always in optimum condition. Proper care of the field requires maintenance done on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. He/she is responsible for taking care of the grass and non-grass areas, including the bases and baseline areas, and pitching mound. Provides support for all other events that will take place on the field throughout the calendar year. Supports community initiatives such as rebuilding a little league field. Works closely with Facility Manager during the off season and supports facility maintenance projects as scheduled.
The groundskeeper must maintain a professional baseball field to major league standards. Duties include infield maintenance, edging, mound/plate repair, batting practice setup and teardown, pre/post game maintenance, fertilizer and spray applications, hiring and managing the gameday crew, radar and tarp management. The head groundskeeper also supervises and participates in a variety of general landscaping activities such as tree trimming, removal of leaves and trash from landscaping areas, snow removal operations from stadium grounds, etc.
Demonstrate the ability to safely operate all equipment and machinery.
Maintains inventory of all grounds keeping equipment and makes recommendations for repairs/replacement.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems with equipment.
Participates in snow removal as needed.
Works with management to create budget and adhere to same.
Prepares for inclement weather and coordinates tarp pulls with front office staff/interns.
Continuously maintains the integrity of the field for regular scheduled baseball season
Perform general baseball field maintenance which includes preparing, maintaining, and repairing all field, bullpen, mound, plate and warning track areas.
Assist with batting practice set-up and tear down, infield tarp deployment and removal, etc.
Perform turf grass management including: mowing, edging, sodding, aerating, topdressing, irrigation repairs, as well as assisting with fertilizer and pest control applications, in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
Responsible for cleanliness in batting cage areas, dugouts, etc.
Assist in maintaining a well-organized, clean, professional looking shop and break room area.
Service accounts and partners related to grounds keeping, including those involving field maintenance equipment.
Assist Operations department with off-season stadium projects including: storing rail & wall padding, screens and netting.
Assist Operations department with maintenance of landscaping of grounds outside the stadium walls on the ballpark's property.
Work additional off-season and non-game day events (high school games, showcases, marathons, etc).
Be a team player and an active part of the front office staff.
Associates or Bachelor's degree desired in Field/Turf Management or related field and previous experience maintaining a baseball field or similar sports venue playing surface
Able to Lift 50 pounds.
Must be willing and able to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be highly motivated and able to respond well under pressure.
Able to maintain a professional attitude and appearance
