Job Purpose

Responsible for assistance in the maintenance of an aesthetically-pleasing, safe, and functional outdoor community. As the groundskeeper mechanic, this position will also administer and document the repair and overhaul of small and large size gas and diesel engine repairs.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead grounds keeping crew when supervisor is absent.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on electrically-powered, gasoline, and diesel-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines.

  • Maintains all records on services and repairs performed as well as inventory of parts and supplies needed on grounds equipment.

  • Operates forklift, Bobcat, street sweeper, chain saw and other lawn equipment including tractor equipped with attachments

  • Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs, amends beds, placement of grass seed and sod.

  • Cuts lawns using hand mower or power mower. Trims and edges walks, flower beds and walls using clippers, weed cutters and edging tools. Prune shrubs and trees. Removes damaged leaves and branches using shears, pruner or saw. Cleans grounds and removes litter, cleans gutters, drainage ditches/culverts.

  • Repair equipment, irrigation systems, fences, gates, walls, walks & bumper blocks

  • Trash pickup, recycling, empties excrement bins, takes care of mulching/compost

  • Pulls weeds, helps with leaf removal in the fall, helps with concrete and asphalt repair,

  • Repair equipment, irrigation systems, fences, gates, walls, walks & bumper blocks.

  • Identifies diseases, insects and turf problems. Sprays and applies fertilizers and herbicide under supervision of Landscape Supervisor.

  • Handles work orders and move jobs, including furniture

  • Set up and tear down for community events.

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Handles stress well, gets along with others in the workplace, maintains acceptable standards of conduct.

  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.

  • Completes trainings as required by policy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • GED or High School Diploma.

  • Specialized or technical training in the repair and maintenance of small and large sized gasoline and diesel engines is preferred.

  • At least two years of experience in repairing gasoline and diesel powered engines is required.

  • Grounds keeping experience required.

  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • Must have excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and follow instructions.

  • Ability to speak, read and write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence.

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, and reach. Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. May need to push, pull, and lift with regular or repetitive motion. May need to pick up, pinch, type with fingers, grasp with fingers and palm. May need to feel attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
