Job Summary:

Join the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), General Services Division (GSD), as a Groundskeeper Lead.This vital role involves a wide range of landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks, utilizing equipment like lawn mowers, power washers, and landscape tractors. Key responsibilities include pruning, lawn care, weed removal, and sprinkler system repair, along with seasonal maintenance such as over seeding and fertilizing.

The Groundskeeper Lead coordinates with contractors, prepares project reports, and ensures service quality through the development of new landscaping specifications. This role also oversees safety compliance among inmate crews and vendors, ensuring adherence to OSHA and MSDS standards, while managing inventory and equipment for a safe, productive environment. Job Duties:

  • Directs and executes a full range of landscaping tasks and duties such as pruning and maintenance of trees and bushes, maintaining plants, lawn maintenance including mowing, edging removal of weeds, sprinkler system repair, and seasonal maintenance activities such as scalping, overseeding and fertilizing. Supervises, directs and performs audits to ensure that inmates, and vendors are compliant with OSHA, MSDS, and any equipment training requirements.

  • Maintains water conservation programs; annual/seasonal plans and schedules as appropriate; outdoor plant and tree life programs; recommend purchase of all equipment, supplies and plant life; applying pesticides and herbicides as a licensed qualifying party by the Structural Pest Control Board.

  • Audits work activities by conducting building and grounds inspections at the Arizona State Hospital to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly measurements are met.

  • Provide pool maintenance for 2 pools at the Arizona State Hospital including chemical treatment and cleaning

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and State statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility

  • Principles and practices of supervision and personnel management

  • Methods of personnel training

  • Principles and practices of inventory control

  • Purpose and use of MSDS

  • Recommended use and practical application of safety equipment

  • Recommended use and practical application of fertilizers and pest control materials

  • Security policies and procedures of the Department of Administration and the Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry for management of inmate crews

Skills in:

  • Written and oral communications

  • Personnel management

  • Use of landscaping equipment including lifts, tractors, mowers, edgers, etc.

  • Irrigation installation and repair

  • Adapt to changing priorities and prioritize workload for team and self

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with staff and upper management

  • Conduct business in an appropriate professional business manner

  • provide excellent customer service

  • Effectively supervise inmates and cooperatively work with others

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona driver's license

  • Fingerprint clearance card required after hire

  • Background and reference check, including a criminal records verification
