Groundskeeper (Lead)

Job Title: Grounds Tech Department: Support Services FLSA Status: Nonexempt (At-will Position) Position Status: Full-time, 12 month calendar Salary: Range 106 ($18.81 - $26.54 per hour - (Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead activities of Groundskeepers.

• Train and assist in providing orientation to new employees.

• Coordinate and assign work to Groundskeepers in the maintenance of shrubs, trees, lawns, planting areas, and sprinkler systems.

• Inspect work of personnel and recommend corrective measures to meet established standards.

• Mow lawns, remove debris from stairs and walks, rakes leaves, and edge sidewalk.

• Prune trees and shrubs; plant shrubs, trees and flowers, and pull weeds.

• Check sprinklers and perform irrigation activities.

• Water trees, shrubs and lawns.

• May operate equipment such as mowers, trucks, forklifts, skiploaders, and trenchers.

• Operate pick-up trucks, edgers, weed whackers, chain saws, brush trimmers, hand mowers, and hand tools.

• Assist in the maintenance of other areas by painting and doing custodial work.

• Assist with moving tables, chairs and other furniture.

• Perform maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

• Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds care

• Knowledge of the operation, use and routine maintenance of grounds power equipment

• Skill in operating grounds maintenance equipment

• Skill in both verbal and written communication

• Ability to obtain current Arizona driver's license

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery

• Exposure to extreme weather conditions

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Lifts, moves, or carries objects weighing up to 80 pounds

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
