ARIZONA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (AMS)

The position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds or the Arizona State Veterans' Home. Assists the Engineering Department as needed. Completes special projects as assigned. Utilizes Arizona Management System concepts and tools for problem solving and work/process improvements and efficiency.
Performs seasonal grounds duties including clean up, trimming, planting and removal of dead plants and weeds. Fertilizes and applies pesticide/herbicides as directed. May mow, edge and trim turf areas. Rakes soil and granite. Removes accumulated leaves and debris.
Maintains high levels of grounds cleanliness. Regularly monitors and participates in pick-up of collected and loose trash from all outdoor areas (dumpster, common areas, parking lots, patios, etc.). Empties cigarette urns; cleans up discarded cigarette butts. Attends to gum and graffiti removal.
Power washes patio areas, furniture and entry ways. Ensures positive presentation of walk-ways, driveways and parking lot. May operate sump pump to drain flooded parking lot areas.
Waters trees, shrubs, plants, grass. Manages automatic watering/irrigation system. Inspects and tests for operability and component malfunctions.
Maintains hand tools and power equipment in safe and clean manner. Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, minor repairs and adjustments on grounds equipment.
Notifies Physical Plant Supervisor of issues related to grounds, automatic watering/irrigation systems and equipment. Assists Engineering Department as needed. Completes special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Knowledge of standard practices, tools equipment and materials associated with caring for and maintaining grounds.
Plant care sufficient to trim, prune, thin, fertilize, weed, plant and transplant as necessary.
Methods and techniques used in operating powered grounds equipment and tools.
Maintenance and repair of automatic watering and irrigation systems.
Verbal and written communication
Operating grounds keeping equipment and tools.
Operation and maintenance of automatic watering and irrigation systems.
Applying methods and techniques in caring for and maintaining grounds and plant life.
Operating and performing preventive maintenance on powered/no-powered grounds equipment and tools.
Perform routine preventative maintenance on tools and equipment
Maintain and make ordinary repairs of grounds keeping tools, machinery and equipment.
Recognize plant disease and insect destruction.
Work outdoors in all types of weather.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Follow manufacturers recommendations on the application of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.
Operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools and related equipment.
Maintain automatic watering and irrigation systems.
Current Negative Tb skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last 6 months or a written statement from a physician, physician's assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or tuberculosis
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
