Duties Summary

Perform a variety of manual work in the cleaning, care and maintenance of landscaped grounds areas such as lawns, hedges and other plantings, and adjacent sidewalk and other paved and unpaved areas; use hand and power lawn tools, and operate light motorized equipment; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "....an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:

(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.

(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.

(3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.

(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.

Criminal History Check and Comprehensive Background Investigation: You will be required to sign an Applicant's Consent, Authorization and Request to Release Information Waiver. This gives your consent and authorization to release any and all records, information, and opinions regarding your background, education, employment, character and reputation needed by the Department of Human Resources Development and/or the Department of Public Safety to make a thorough investigation to determine your fitness and suitability for employment with the State of Hawaii.

This authorization shall apply to include all criminal history records, information and opinions, military records, all educational and employment history records, and traffic abstract records. May supervise Automotive Mechanic Helpers, and may serve as lead worker over other Automotive Mechanic I's when engaged in large overhaul jobs requiring more than one Automotive Mechanic and other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Requirements To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Experience and Training: Four (4) years of work experience which involved the performance of automotive repair work under a journey level automotive mechanic, or successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship program for automotive mechanics in motor vehicle repair work under a journey level automotive mechanic, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For those positions requiring a driver's license, you must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. Knowledge of: Practices, tools, materials and equipment used in the automotive mechanic trade; shop practices and methods; occupational hazards and safety measures applicable to the trade; principles of internal combustion engines and automotive parts and adjustment of specific types and makes of motor vehicles; motorized equipment and accessories. Ability to: Operate motor vehicles and motorized equipment; estimate material, parts, and labor necessary to perform an overhaul job; operate the various machines and equipment used in adjusting, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles and motorized equipment; locate and adjust mechanical defects and make necessary repairs to motor vehicles and motorized equipment, do welding, simple sheet metal work and metal fabrication; make working sketches and drawings; give and receive both oral and written instructions. In addition, for Automotive Mechanic II, ability to plan, lay out, assign, review and evaluate the work of skilled automotive mechanics; keep records and prepare reports.
