We are hiring 3 Seasonal Grounds Workers!The Temporary Grounds Worker is an hourly and on-call, seasonal position that performs basic grounds maintenance for upkeep, repair, renovation and new landscape work on campus. The position is scheduled to begin upon selection. This position provides assistance for all grounds maintenance upkeep and landscape operations. The Seasonal Grounds Worker is part of the Facilities team and report directly to the Ground's Worker Lead. This position's pay will increase to $20.29 because of thegeneral wage increase effective July 1st 2024.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Maintain and repair existing lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers in a healthy and attractive state.

  • Operate mowers, edger's, blowers and vacuums, electrical power and hand tools, and other specified types of power equipment necessary to complete certain jobs.

  • Install new lawns.

  • Paint parking lots.

  • Apply sawdust chips, bark, gravel, etc., where requested.

  • Prepare flower beds and large areas for seeding.

  • Maintain lawns and flower beds to include watering, grooming plants, and general weeding.

  • Operates all light and heavy equipment as needed.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.

  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Ground's Worker Lead.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including knowledge of the proper operations of and safety practices related to landscaping power and hand tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform self-directed job responsibilities in a timely, efficient manner.

  • Demonstrated competency for successful performance of the responsibilities listed.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet and be on your feet for an 8-hour shift.

  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor for extended periods of time.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Successful experience using tact, discretion and courtesy while interacting with all persons.

  • Successful experience with diverse populations of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.

  • Previous grounds experience is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Employees are required to wear long pants and close toed shoe's (boots are preferred). Renton Technical College will provide all necessary PPE.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work hours for this temporary (seasonal) position will be 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and may vary based on operational needs. Work is physical in nature and performed outdoors with exposure to the elements of weather
