Grounds Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Serve the campus community in the capacity determined by the Director of Grounds and Landscaping. Responsibilities could include:

  • Snow Removal

  • Campus Lawn Care

  • Campus Landscaping

  • Campus Waste Disposal/Recycling

  • General Grounds Care and Facilities Maintenance

  • Perform Other Related Duties as Assigned

  • Adhere to any safety regulations and standards spelled out in the IWU safety policy and or dictated by trainings.

  • Comply with any processes and procedures established by Facilities management and or Indiana Wesleyan University administration.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to the Grounds Worker Mowing Lead

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions

Hot and Cold

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting heavy objects up to 75lb.

  • Attentive to detail, a self-starter, and ability to work without close supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills; discerning and tactful.

  • Willingness to serve in any capacity determined by any member of the Grounds Department leadership team.

  • Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the general public.

  • May be required to work overtime as directed by supervision.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervise student workers as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Experience:
2 years of relative experience in a grounds/maintenance related field

Required Skills:

  • Ability to operate such equipment as hand and power mowers, front-end loaders, tractors, spraying equipment, and hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner.

  • Considerable knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance activities.

  • Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance.
