The Grounds Technician maintains the grounds and exterior infrastructure of the campus under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor. This is a hands-on, in-the-field position working with the grounds, mowing, and maintenance teams on a daily basis. The Grounds Technician assumes responsibility for maintaining the grounds of the campus at a superior level and with exceptional attention to detail and meeting the standards of performance quality which reflect a pristine campus.
This position works Monday through Friday, 7AM - 3:30PM.
Essential Functions:

Coordinates the care of the campus grounds and landscapes with and at the direction of the Supervisor of Grounds
Performs tasks common to the care of grounds and landscapes by seeding, watering, mulching, fertilizing, and applying chemicals to outside plantings, lawns and turf
Performs regular and directed grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns with riding or push mowers; trims and edges around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks, and buildings; weeds, thins and cleans flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing proper tools and equipment.
Performs campus-wide general maintenance and repairs by installing, removing, repairing and maintaining landscape lighting, signs, cables, chains, barricades, gates, bicycle racks, feeders, posts, fences, and rock walls; and repairing streets, parking lots, athletic fields, tennis courts, track, and turf, as applicable
Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, manhole covers, etc., for debris; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, dirt and trash from streets, sidewalks, and parking lots, and transporting the trash to designated central collection points on a daily basis
Cleans and disinfects trash and cigarette receptacles on a regular basis, and removes, repairs, and installs trash and cigarette receptacles on campus property on an as-needed basis
Assists with clearing snow and/or ice from walkways and parking lots using snow removal equipment, as well as ice-melt spreading equipment
Prepares outdoor locations for use by visitors, vendors, and the public as needed by campus operations
Ensures that grounds maintenance equipment and building maintenance equipment are clean and operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance
As needed, performs minor maintenance work using hand and power tools (e.g., minor carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical repairs)
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent, required
Certification in spray applications and pesticides, or ability to pursue such certification
Demonstrable work history reflecting reliability and dependability
Possession of a current drivers license and evidence of insurability, required
Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
Knowledge of safety principles and safe-operating procedures
Ability to work from stepladders with or without accommodations
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform duties with minimal supervision
Ability to stoop, bend, stand, walk, reach, kneel, climb, or balance frequently and for extended periods of time while performing job duties
Intercultural competency: ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
