What You Will Do

As the Grounds Supervisor, you will use your experience to plan and lead maintenance crews at County owned facilities. Your expertise will impact the Bureau of Facilities through managing turf, landscaping and trees, scheduling site repairs, and ensuring the safe use of equipment. The Grounds Manager will rely on you to aid in the leadership and development of personnel.

Essential Duties

  • Plan repairs, projects, and ground maintenance at County owned facilities.

  • Manage equipment inventory and coordinate maintenance of power tools and grounds equipment.

  • Help create specifications for vendor quotes and ensure contractors completion of projects.

  • Ensure safe use of equipment by grounds staff.

  • Manage day-to-day operations/activities, including work order and preventive maintenance assignment via CMMS system.

  • Coordinate snow removal and other emergency operations.

  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

  • Review budgets for the office. Recommend reallocating resources when necessary.

  • Implement standards developed in coordination with peers through policies, procedures, and work schedules. Lead team training to reinforce integrity, ethics, and use of best practices.

  • Encourage collaboration and support team members work and development through mentorship. Build and maintain a welcoming workplace.

  • Lead team operation to meet standards set in Federal, State, and local laws. Partner with legal counsel to ensure policies, procedures, and practices follow applicable Carroll County ordinances.

  • Maintain transparent communication to support flow of information in the organization.

  • May perform additional duties in supervisor's absence.

You Might Be a Good Fit If

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)

  • Five or more years of related experience

  • Three or more years of supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to perform supervisory duties.

  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.

Licenses

  • Class B commercial driver's license (CDL)
  • Pesticide Application license (Maryland) (or must obtain within six months of employment)
  • Fertilizer Application license (Maryland) (or must obtain within six months of employment)

Certifications

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card

Additional Information

  • Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.

  • Will be required to work outside of standard hours.

Working Conditions

  • Must wear appropriate PPE as required.

  • Daily exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.

  • Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities.
