JOB PURPOSE
In support of Midwesterns mission of for the church, and under supervision of the Assistant Director of Campus Operations, lead a team responsible for the cultivation and care of campus-wide landscaping and grounds, encompassing both main campus and housing areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide leadership to small team in the performance of all landscaping and grounds keeping duties; demonstrate commitment to mission through continual assessment and process improvement
Apply chemicals, weed, and/or prevention topicals as needed
Recommend and provide support the development and construction of new/existing lawn and landscape areas; grade and prepare soil base; lay sod; plant trees, shrubs, and seed lawn areas; water and fertilize trees, lawns, and landscape areas
Maintain institutions irrigation system
Partner with mechanic in the timely completion of equipment preventative maintenance
Manicure lawns using hand, power, or riding mowers, trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
Maintain plant beds and containers campus-wide to include mulching, trimming/weeding, planting annual flowers, and other landscaping vegetation; water and fertilize beds as needed
Trim trees to maintain proper growth or to eliminate dangers/threats, including the removal of dead, diseased, or damaged tree limbs and/or foliage.
Maintain a clean work environment; Return all equipment, tools, and campus vehicles to designated storage area following each shift; Keep dirt, sawdust, and other debris swept up and cleaned from benches and floors in shop and garages
Operate snow removal equipment, or removes snow via handwork; apply ice treatment to provide safe environment for staff, students, and guests
Regularly inspect grounds and remove unsightly trash and debris from public areas
Assist in project work ex. assembly/disassembly of new/existing landscape configurations
Observe all safety rules and regulations.
Prepare periodic reports to discuss the teams progress, strengths/weaknesses, and needs
Regularly communicate budgetary and funding concerns to supervisor
Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Include, but not limited to:
Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
High school diploma or equivalent
Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the departments benefit, strong attention to detail
Hold a commercial pesticide applicators license
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Must be a team player and committed to working in a quality environment
Prior experience on grounds equipment required. Training procedure required on all equipment and vehicles. Complete list of equipment and training approval on file
Positive attitude with a desire and willingness to learn
Must be able to pass background screening, including driving record

WORKING CONDITIONS
Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm
This may include some early morning, evening, and/or weekend work
May be required to work in extreme weather conditions
Frequent exposure to dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuels, motor oil, and solvents
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasionally required to sit or stand for periods of time at desk or computer station
Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
Sufficient physical ability to do heavy manual labor such as the installation of lawns and shoveling of snow, occasionally lifting 80 lb. bags, and pushing, pulling, or dragging items of up to 150 lbs.
