Grounds Supervisor

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full time Grounds Supervisor to begin in as soon as possible. The Schools grounds include, but are not limited to, succulent gardens, landscaped areas specializing in drought resistant plants and cacti, roadways and paths, irrigation systems, athletic fields, tennis courts, running tracks, and other recreational facilities. We are looking for an individual with grounds supervisor experience, preferably in a school environment. This is a hands-on position where the Grounds Supervisor will work alongside the Grounds Crew under his/her direction. An ideal candidate will have strong grounds and campus management experience, well developed people skills, and a history of providing the highest level of customer service.
Responsibilities include:

Planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day grounds crew in order to provide high levels cleanliness, beauty, and maintenance of the schools grounds on the East and West Campuses
Maintain athletic fields to ensure consistent playability, properly lined/stripped, proper fertilization and re-seeding, and student safety
Design and install new planting areas, as well as provide supervision to ensure trees are being properly pruned and maintained

A candidate should possess the following personal and professional qualities:

At least 5 years of experience in the ground care and management trades, including 3 years of experience in a grounds supervision role at a highly landscaped location
A clear driving record
An ability to enforce school policies
A focus on teaching, promoting, and maintaining a safe workplace
Strong communication skills
The ability to work well with a variety of people
An interest in and openness to professional growth and development
Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Trims memorials and monuments on cemetery grounds. Maintains cemetery grounds and buildings under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor. Full time position requires 40 hours per week. Overtime is required as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work. * Sets up graves for interment services, seals vaults, backfills and tamps graves, replaces sod; trims all memorials and monuments on cemetery grounds. * Sets up tents as necessary; handles and stores dirt sheets and greens. * Mow, edges, sweeps lawns. * Removes flowers; cares for vases. * Prunes, fertilizes and waters the grounds. * Cares for flowerbeds and areas around buildings. * Raises graves and memorials; levels lawn. * Cleans automobiles and equipment. * Cleans office and performs janitorial maintenance. * Gathers and removes trash. * Acts as funeral attendant; assists priests, patrons and funeral directors as necessary. * Performs other cemetery tasks as directed by Supervisor. * Maintains good personal appearance; conducts self in a manner befitting funerals and respect for the dead. * Responsible for safe and careful handling of all cemetery property and equipment; makes certain of its proper use and security. * Makes certain all equipment is clean and stored properly; informs Supervisor of any needed maintenance or repairs to equipment, or buildings. * Ground worker in small cemeteries operates backhoe and performs minor maintenance work. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements: Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically: * Valid Driver's License, good driving record and automobile insurance. General education sufficient to understand and observe written and oral instructions, directions and safety rules. * Previous experience in grounds-care helpful. * Training in lawn maintenance and landscaping equipment, excavation safety -- all on the job training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Application of on-the-job training in procedures and safety practices. * Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community * Basic edging and trimming equipment operation and repair. Skill in: * Acquiring necessary skills from on-the-job training. Ability to: * Bilingual English/Spanish. * Complete job on own after initial instruction from Supervisor. * Write, read, and follow instructions. * Lift heavy objects and equipment. * Lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted and be able to lift heavier objects with the aid of other grounds workers. * Handle grave set-ups, tins and sod carefully. * Operate standard office equipment and computer. * Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
