The Facilities Department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking qualified individual for current our opportunity as a Grounds Maintenance Worker. If you have experience/knowledge of a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of grounds, athletic fields, and other landscaped areas.

Grounds maintenance worker is distinguished from skilled maintenance working in that the incumbents in the latter class perform more difficult semi-skilled and skilled duties requiring knowledge of building trades, methods, and practices. We are looking for someone who has obtained Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION

  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)• Position Status:

    Permanent• Schedule: Monday-Friday from 6am-2:30pm• Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) or Pacific Coast Campus (PCC)• Salary:

    Range 22 $4,150.16 - $5,095.09• Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.• Advanced salary placement:

Duties

Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of grounds, athletic fields and other landscaped areas; installs, repairs and maintains irrigation systems for landscaped areas; and performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience• scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review.

  • Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs*• in-person or online:• written examination(s)• qualifications appraisal oral examination• performance examination• technical oral examination(the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.

Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.

  • PLEASE NOTE: The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut-off score) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District. Applicants that most closely meet the needs of the District will proceed with the recruitment process. *
