The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the Universitys teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University. The primary purpose of the position is to provide grounds maintenance services for Grounds Management. The Grounds Maintenance Technician (GMT) serves as a member of a grounds maintenance crew providing high level management and aesthetic quality to the landscape on campus within a designated campus zone.

This position also assists with the annual and perennial planting activities, mulching, weeding, debris removal, bed preparation, pruning and sanitation. Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally.

System operates 360 days a year, with 5 days set-aside for federal/state inspections and repair; the system encompasses all controls in building mechanical rooms that use steam and hot water; position ensures that systems are monitored and inspected constantly and equipment adjusted to avoid malfunctions, and ensures that the equipment is operating within set operation ranges; this work involves quality assurance, valve, pump and pipe repair, gauge calibration, boiler repair and operation, chemical analysis, precision measuring, system controls, hydrostatic testing, trouble-shooting, and problem solving; position involves the operation of acetylene and electric arc welding equipment in order to fuse metal parts in situations where weld strength is a necessity, such as in the construction or repair of steam boilers and high pressure steam lines; remove defective high pressure steam piping, cuts and fits replacement pipe, tack welds into place, and make final weld. High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
