Grounds Worker
Essential Functions
The Gardening Grounds Worker assists the Gardening Specialist in maintaining neat, clean, and beautiful grounds by performing landscaping duties, which include the seven core gardening tasks:
Pick up litter
Weed whip, edge, and mow
Weed and cultivate
Clean up
Check and repair sprinklers
Train, mentor, and supervise a student crew which performs the same duties
Snow removal is required
Qualifications:
1.Required
Previous experience with BYU Grounds Maintenance
Instructional, training and communication skills
Efficient operation of various small engines and machines
Efficient operation of snowplows and tractors
Efficient use of hand tools
Ability to work in a professional manner with the public and other departments for special events
Knowledge and experience in sprinkler repair
2.Preferred
3+ years of full-time landscape and supervisory experience
Knowledge of plant pests and diseases helpful
Knowledge of growing cycles and pruning procedures of plants helpful
Additional Qualifications:
Driving a University Vehicle, Physical Exam Required
Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
Physical Exam Required: Y
Physical Exam Details: Lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, shoveling, leveling 6-8 hours Daily Gloves, closed-toe shoes Snow removal duties As needed Seasonally Hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, sunscreen. Forklift, skidsteer, trackhoe, loader, 2-4 hours As needed Hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, gloves

Approximate Starting Salary: $16.00 - $20.25
