The Grounds Leader is responsible for maintaining an organized campus grounds program that prioritizes an attractive and hazard-free campus. The Grounds Leader assists in maintaining grounds equipment and is the primary point of contact for Facilities management in response to snow fall, including during snow emergencies, and seasonal maintenance. They will work directly with vendors involved with seasonal landscaping and grounds keeping activities.

  • High school diploma/GED is required.

  • Valid Driver's License is required.

  • Proof of completion of Front-End Loader Operator Training (OSHA), to be renewed as required.

  • Physical ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Serves as primary point of contact for sprinkler, plowing, salting, tree trimming, and other landscaping vendors. May include but is not limited to ensuring access to lots and courtyards, overseeing seasonal start-up or shut-down of systems, and assisting with troubleshooting problems.

  • Oversees the seasonal work of sprinkler, plowing, salting, tree trimming, and other landscaping vendors performing services on HFC campuses, and as needed, prioritizing the work of vendor services.

  • Performs routine grounds inspections to maintain a pleasant outdoor campus aesthetic and to identify areas in need of attention or improvement.

  • Reporting to the Facilities Manager, verifies satisfactory completion of work for approval of payment for vendor services.

  • Operate trucks, loader, and Hustler machines in clearing snow, removing scrap or other waste, or other college facilities functions.

  • Responsible for monitoring overnight weather during winter months and ensuring snow and ice removal is completed in time to open safely for business.

  • Overtime is required in response to weather emergencies to ensure the campus is safe and unobstructed for faculty, staff, and students. May be required to work when the college is closed for inclement weather to facilitate re-opening.

  • Under supervision of the Facilities Manager, may delegate work to custodial staff (FAII).

  • Responsible for providing training as needed in snow and ice removal.

  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory essential to the job (including but not limited to mulch and ice-melt).

  • Assists with maintenance, cleaning, and repair of equipment used in the performance of these duties.

  • Checks and monitors HFC email and work orders daily.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
