GROUND OPERATIONS ENGINEER, LAUNCH PADS
SpaceX is currently seeking an individual to join the ground operations engineering team in Cape Canaveral, FL. As a member of the ground operations engineering team, you will have the opportunity to utilize your multi-disciplinary knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop solutions to Launch Pad Operations with the goal of maximizing efficiency without sacrificing safety or reliability.
While preparing the pads for launch, you will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of launch pad ground support equipment have been properly inspected, configured, and tested to support Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy interface requirements. During integrated launch operations, you will be responsible for leading a team of technicians on the pads through operational procedures resulting in successful, on-time launches.
Identify and execute Launch Pad hardware and process optimizations to drive towards a physics based launch-to-launch cadence with increased reliability and decreased cost
As assigned, represent the Ground Operations Engineering team during launch campaigns by ensuring pad operations are on schedule, all testing and verification have been completed, and outstanding issues have been resolved and/or communicated to the various teams supporting Launch Operations
Perform pre-and post-launch operations on the launch vehicle and supporting ground systems
Use fluid dynamic, thermodynamic, low voltage electrical, and mechanical system knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment
Author, review, and execute technical work instructions such as inspection plans, operational procedures, and test plans
Be a self-starter that will seek out the solutions to technical problems with the local team along with the larger SpaceX workforce
Drive efficiency and site-wide commonality into all aspects of ground operations by closely collaborating with engineering staff and technicians from multiple departments on a daily basis
Represent SpaceX by presenting certification packages and engineering data to U.S. government agencies including NASA, US Air Force and others
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience working at a rocket launch/test facility and supporting launch/test campaigns
Demonstrated expertise in SpaceX core planning tools such as shop floor, manufacturing planning, and test plans
Experience testing and operating with or around hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases & fluids, etc.)
Familiarity with instrumentation and control components (pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid, pneumatic valves)
Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices such as ASME B31.3, ASME BPV Code Section VIII, and AFSPCMAN 91-710
Experience reviewing data from anomalies and identifying root cause
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast paced environment
Strong communication and presentation skills
Strong work ethic and drive to for constant improvement balanced with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Must be willing to work weekends and night shifts as needed
Must be willing to travel to other launch sites in support of operational activities and launches; travel requirement is up to 15%
Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
