WHAT WILL YOU DO

This individual is responsible for accessioning and preparing specimens for gross examination, maintaining logs and preparing specimens for transport to the histology laboratory. He/she may perform routine stains for immediate diagnosis.

This person will be responsible for processing high complexity type tissue specimens for tissue processing. Other duties include weighing and measuring specimens and assisting pathology with gross examination of high complexity type tissue specimens. He/she will also assist with cytological specimen preparation and staining to provide data in the functioning of tissue and organs causes and/or progress of disease.

Clerical duties include completing histology computer work, gathering workload data as requested by supervisor and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies as indicated by supervisor. This individual shall maintain a healing environment for employees and patients with a spirit of caring and concern as incorporated in the philosophy our Catholic healthcare systems while performing all job functions.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Must meet requirements to perform high complexity testing as defined by CLIA 42CFR493.1489 and 42CFR493.1491:

Have earned a master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.

Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or have education and training equivalent to that specified in paragraph 493.1489(b)(2)(i) and includes 493.1489(2)(A) and 42CFR493,1489(2)(B).

Successfully completed 3 years (90 semester hours or equivalent) in an accredited college or university with the appropriate distribution of courses.

This individual must also have experience and training covering several fields of medical laboratory work, where at least 1 year of this work is equivalent to medical technology training.
