What you'll be doing

The Community Food Co-op's Grocery Team Members assists with ordering, receiving, stocking and display of grocery product. Maintaining department cleanliness and providing excellent customer service to customers, members, co-workers, and vendors is also a big part of the job.

The Grocery team member position reports to the Grocery Department Managers.

Location & Commitments

• Downtown Store, 1220 N Forest St, Bellingham, WA

• Full-time, Non-Exempt

• Starting pay is $17.30/hr + $0.75 shift premium (range is $17.30-$20.70).

• Hours and days vary, evening and weekend shifts will be assigned (shifts range from 9pm-5am).

• Schedules are posted at least 2 weeks in advance.

What you'll be responsible for

• Providing friendly and welcoming customer service

• Awareness of all promotions and advertisements

• Merchandising the department to enhance shopping experience and maximize sales, including proper pricing and signage.

• Stocking, rotating, and facing product according to department procedure

• Maintaining back-stock areas according to department standards

• Receiving product and ensuring invoice accuracy

• May place orders as directed by the department managers

• Cataloguing and coding invoices, separating special orders, updating and files paperwork

• Ensuring department sanitation, cleanliness and safety standards are met

• Performing other duties as needed and assigned

Requirements

What skills are needed

• Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to learn about Grocery products

• Interest and ability to gain knowledge of natural and organic grocery industry

• Attention to detail and multitasking skills

• Ability to speak and comprehend English well, multi-lingual is great

• Must be at least 18 years of age

Physical requirements / working conditions

Ability to:

• work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.

• meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, reaching above shoulders and below knees, pushing/pulling carts, and lifting up to 60 pounds, repetitive motion and fine motor manipulation, and climb ladders

• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.

• Exposure to temperatures: Less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), over 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Use department tools and operate all machinery necessary to perform job. May include forklift, pallet jack, baler, box knives, etc.

Salary Description

$17.30-$20.70
