Job Title: Grocery Clerk I

FLSA Status: Hourly

Reports To: Grocery Department Manager

Responsible for ensuring that all company policies and procedures are being followed and that department goals are being obtained. Contributes to store sales and profitability by effectively managing all aspects of the Grocery Department such as stock levels, inventory, and customer service.

Our Grocery associates can throw sugar and flour like no tomorrow during the holidays and stock up all our guests' BBQ needs during the summer with ease! Not sure where a special item is located? Our grocery associates are the experts on where that perfect ingredient is on the shelf and enjoy showcasing all the different selections Festival has to offer.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures all department standards are being met in the Grocery department.

  • Observes sales floor conditions; takes action to correct areas of opportunity

  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels and ensures accurate pricing on products received and sold

  • Communicates and works cooperatively with Store Director, Grocery Department Manager and Grocery associates to maintain standards and exceed guest expectations

  • Oversees all sanitation within Grocery departmen

  • Provides customer service to guests.

  • Assists guests with finding items they are looking for throughout the store

  • Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues when a guest is not satisfied with the service or product received

  • Contributes to overall cleanliness of the department by picking up, organizing, and cleaning work areas, shelving, and sales floor as needed

  • Ensure all quality standards are being met, including quantity expectations at 100% by 10 am and 5 pm.

  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and associates.

  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a stressful environment.

  • Thorough understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies, including proper lifting techniques and box cutter safety.

  • Ability to use the following equipment: power jack, walk behind lift, WAV, baler, compactor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • The associate must possess the ability to stand in place for long periods of time; work in a cooler, walk in the store; bend, stoop and kneel regularly.

  • The associate must have full range of upper body motion in order to lift product. Requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.

  • Must possess functional sensory abilities in order to visually monitor the store, create attractive displays, and to operate equipment.

  • The position requires the associate to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.

WORK SCHEDULE

The Grocery Clerk I is an hourly position. The work schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays within the individual's availability.

Qualifications Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Prior retail experience is preferred, but not required. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds and to occasionally lift up to 60 pounds from the floor to waist or chest high. Significant time driving a vehicle may be required. In general, resets can be very physical in nature. Reset activities could include: removing items from the shelf, moving shelves, building fixtures, reorganizing the products according to the plan-o-gram provided, replacing shelf tags, filling in new products and retrieving additional stock when necessary. Computer Skills: Proficient use of a Personal Computer, printer and familiarity with Adobe, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Tools: Daily access to the worldwide web with the ability to meet system requirements, printer and phone. You must have access to reliable transportation. The reliable transportation must be able to transport you and task materials a minimum of forty miles from your home to execute a variety of work. Operating a Personal vehicle: In the event the associate drives a personal vehicle for business purposes, the associate is required to maintain a valid state-issued drivers license and the minimum auto insurance coverage specified by the associates state of residence. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None. Work environment: Retail store environment with some travel. Some projects include early mornings (i.e. 4-5am), overnight travel, weekends or nights and holidays.
