Primary Purpose of the Job

Set up and operates all types of centerless grinders, abrasive cut-off machines, double disc grinders and any other type of grinder for production and experimental work orders. Operator will be held to established production and quality standards. Incumbent will have control to make minor adjustments to the process or machine after tasks are assigned. This position may handle confidential information.

Major Activities/Key Challenges

  • Set up all machines, following set up procedures, including through-feed and in-feed grinding machines; using proper blades, profile templates and appropriate die mounds for jobs. Operations are completed to a level to satisfy standards/quotas as listed on blueprints.

  • Checks dimensions and finish to close tolerances. Changes wheels, and dresses wheels to prescribed forms; straight grinding or profiled grinding.

  • Positions, aligns, and secures parts, using any type of holding fixture that may be required.

  • Sets up cut-off machines using proper tooling and may set up machines for operation by others.

  • Perform S.P.C. on all orders. Required to perform daily TPM (as required).

  • Keeps work area clean, safe in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.

  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education

  • Must be able to work from 4pm to 3am Monday through Thursday.

  • Must have a minimum of two years related grinding experience or equivalent.

  • Must have demonstrated skills in communications, dependability and teamwork.

  • Must be able to read various precision measuring instruments.

  • Must be able to read blueprints, work orders and be able to understand basic concepts of S.P.C. and set-up/maintain an S.P.C. chart.

  • Employee owned tools are necessary for this position (see System Operator Procedures as to type).


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

VIEW JOBS 10/31/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-29T00:00 SUMMARY The Centerless Grinder Machinist maximizes efficiency through the process of set-ups and operates 3 or more precision grinding machines for the manufacture of all types of grind lot parts for new or revised products. Process methods are followed in accordance to product specifications and quality standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES . Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation for disabilities may be made for one or more of the following: * Sets up and operates precision grinding equipment to produce machined parts according to blueprints, router package specifications and/or special instructions. * Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. * Starts and observes on-going machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. * Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications. * Prepares and verifies production machine operations on trial run to ensure accuracy of machine settings. * Selects tooling and fixtures pertaining to the grinding operation. * Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running. * Inspects parts for quality and appropriate tolerance using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and comparators. * Calculates and determines proper feed and speed combinations. May true and shape grinding and regulating wheels as required. * Records the piece count and run time of the production times. * Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. * Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers and gauges and perform SPC * Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor. * Complete rebuilding of precision machine tools and equipment. * Provide necessary information to Manufacturing team, Engineering Team or others to document procedures and drawings. * Identifies, disassembles and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts. * Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. * Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams. * Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. * Works directly with all levels in the organization including, management/supervision on continuous improvement efforts regarding machines, components and manufacturing systems. * Works under general supervision with a certain degree of latitude as required. * Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows all safety regulations. * Adheres to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, practices, and procedures. * Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures. * Responsibility for complying with ISO 14001standards, aspects, directives and impact as related to the HSE policy commitments. * Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times. * Required to identify and alert any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately. * Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results. * Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as EMS and recycling opportunities to elimination of production waste * Works under general supervision with a limited degree of creativity and latitude is required. * Performs a variety of other related duties as assigned.
