POSITION SUMMARY

The Cities of Englewood and Sheridan are looking to hire a part-time (20-hour) self-starting individual to help build and run a brand-new Sustainable Business Program shared between the two cities. This program will be part of the state's Colorado Green Business Network (CGBN), a voluntary program that encourages, supports, and rewards organizations that make the move toward the goal of true, operational sustainability. We are seeking a Green Business (GB) Program Coordinator to implement this work.

This position is two-pronged: I) help create and establish this new program, becoming trained through the state's CGBN program; and II) build relationships with the business communities in both cities to help increase participation in this program, guiding businesses through the process of certification and offering consultation on best practices. The GB Program Coordinator will also engage current and prospective GB businesses with ongoing opportunities to network, advance their commitment to sustainability, and pursue climate action.

This role reports to the Sustainability Program Manager who oversees the sustainability program for both the Cities of Englewood and Sheridan. This is a one-year, term-limited position funded through the fees collected from the plastic bag fee tax. The goal is to extend this position beyond one year based on the success and feedback of the program.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will:

  • Maintain GB program standards such as comprehensive initial assessments, ongoing recertifications, program audits, updating program criteria, and reporting.

  • Maintain frequent contact and train with CDPHE's CGBN

  • Engage current GB businesses and develop strategic work plans to increase Englewood and Sheridan's roster of GB businesses.

  • Serve as the Englewood and Sheridan expert in consulting and concierge services for businesses seeking to deepen their commitment to climate action by connecting businesses with information, rebates, and advice on the best ways to reduce their environmental impact in the areas of business management practices, energy efficiency, transportation, waste, and water.

  • Work with these businesses to meet certification requirements.

  • Track metrics and changes with businesses at the start of the GB process and during recertification to understand energy and cost savings over time.

  • Develop case studies (cost-benefit analyses, energy/water savings, etc.) to show the benefits of sustainability practices, implementing GB criteria and funding opportunities (equity funding, zero waste events funding).

  • Create annual reports on the impacts of the GB program.

  • Promote and market the GB program, GB businesses, and the value that climate-minded businesses create.

  • Collaborate with City partners, the larger business community, and other green business programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Public Administration, Management, Business, or other related fields.

Work Experience: Three (3) years of professional or technical level experience planning the administrative aspects of a program(s). One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Certifications and/or Licensures: None

Required Driver's License: Valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current sustainability best practices, green certification programs, and energy assessments

  • Bilingual ability, preferably Spanish, but not required

  • Self-starter, able to think creatively about problems and solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.

  • A mission-driven mindset and the desire to tackle climate action.

  • A strong emphasis on equity and inclusion, with either professional or lived experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including communities of color and under-resourced communities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working in a public-facing role.

  • An ability to collaborate with representatives from a variety of City agencies and the business community.

  • A willingness to grow, innovate, analyze, and improve processes or procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work will largely take place at different businesses throughout both Sheridan and Englewood. In office days will take place at the City of Englewood which constitutes a standard office environment, requiring sitting or standing for extended periods of time, as well as extended computer use and time on a phone. May involve occasional lifting of boxes and other materials weighing over 20 lbs.

HOURLY RATE

$25.21 - $37.82/Hourly Rate
