Essential Duties

1.Contributes to client meetings to define parameters of projects. 2. Provides graphic design services centrally to the University community or specific school/department maintaining established design standards and practices. 3.

Ensures client's needs are met in a timely and cost effective manner 4. Gives input to the development of guidelines and procedures for the University graphic publications. 5. Makes determinations regarding typography, pictorial images, color, paper stock, etc. for projects; recommendations regarding the necessity and selection of outside consultants/designers and printing services. 6.

Contributes to the development of guidelines and procedures for the University graphic publications. 7. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design. Three year of graphic design experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:

Reporting to the Director of Publications and Editorial Services, the Graphic Designer works closely with internal clients across the museum to produce a wide range of high-quality print and digital materials, including exhibition graphics and labels, brochures, advertisements, invitations, flyers, signage, branded merchandise, website and social media graphics, and multimedia presentations. Ensures the consistency and quality of the Gallery's visual identity and is able to effectively communicate how a creative vision will help achieve goals.

Creates digital files for print production; examines and approves production proofs; oversees design budget; and manages printing/on-site production. Assists in the planning and implementation of production schedules and juggles multiple and disparate projects on tight deadlines. Exercises patience, flexibility, and a keen attention to detail through multiple rounds of revision. Candidates selected for interview will be required to submit portfolio.

Essential Duties: Creates and implements design concepts for a wide variety of materials, including exhibition graphics, labels, brochures, rack cards, flyers, posters, invitations, advertisements, branded merchandise, banners, and informational signage inside and outside the museum.

Conveys complex intellectual concepts in visual and graphic terms. Provides conceptual ideas, mock-up designs, and specifications. Attends and contributes to meetings to determine parameters of projects, working with a wide variety of clients from across the museum, including Advancement, Communications, Curatorial, Education, Exhibitions, Visitor Services, and more.

Ascertains needs of colleagues on assigned projects. Prepares project budgets and works with editors to prepare and monitor internal production schedules, as well as with external vendors, ensuring projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner and in accordance with established graphic design standards. Creates digital files for print production; examines and approves production proofs; and manages printing/on-site production.

Ensures materials are ADA compliant. Contracts with outside vendors and printers for graphic production in consultation with relevant museum staff and conducts press checks for all materials. Contracts with and oversees the on-site work of outside vendors in Gallery exhibition spaces.

Ensures that this work is in compliance with object protection protocols. Collaborates with Director of Communications, Web Manager, and external vendor on website design. Hires, trains, and supervises work of bursary students and freelancers, as needed.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

MFA in Graphic Design. Previous experience as a designer in a museum, cultural institution, or academic setting.
