The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it serves as a partner with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography.
The Graphic Designer is highly creative with the demonstrated ability to take conceptual ideas and create visual representations, both in print and digital mediums. The Graphic Designer will collaborate with other members of the Communications team to tell Wesleyan's story using design.
Reporting to the Art Director, the Graphic Designer is part of a team of designers who work collaboratively within the Creative team and throughout the Office of Communications.
Responsibilities include:
Conceptualize, design, and implement creative graphics and content, both in print and digital, on time and within budget.
Pitch comprehensive design solutions that span different mediums to effectively portray Wesleyan University.
Ensure that all work conforms to the high-quality standard of the Creative unit and enforces the brand identity of Wesleyan-how to incorporate it in each project, and how to maintain brand integrity through all projects.
Apply extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud design programs including Illustrator, In Design, Photoshop. Proficiency with web, email, social media, and print (preflight) software.
Effectively manage multiple design assignments and schedules from submission to delivery, while clearly communicating progress for on-time and on budget delivery.
Collaborate with Digital Marketing, Web, Social Media and Multimedia teams to ensure cohesive campaign execution.
Utilize a design process from brainstorming to multiple design iterations to internal reviews with internal team members and university partners.
Ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
Review, critique, and provide feedback on designs created by peers, ensuring all work meets brand standards and project expectations.
Stay current with industry trends, tools, and design techniques to continuously innovate and drive creative excellence within the team.
Perform all aspects of print production and manage vendors for assigned project work.
Catalog and archive all project artwork.
Other duties as assigned.
This position is required to work on campus.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design, similar discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of seven years of experience in graphic design.
Demonstrated ability working in a highly creative role, taking conceptual ideas and creating visual representations, both in print and digital mediums.
Mastery of best practices for using styles, master pages and other design production tools.
Mastery of current design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop), and be skilled with every step of the design process from concept to the final deliverable.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management software such as WorkFront.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate with stakeholders.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects effectively.
Experienced in a variety of design delivery platforms including print, web, and video formats and colors.
Demonstrated experience with storytelling and design fundamentals to conceive overall concept, tone, voice, look, and feel in both traditional and digital media, consistent with overall messaging.
Understanding of the principles of visual storytelling and effective design techniques.
Strong portfolio that demonstrates a flair for storytelling across digital platforms.
Excellent organizational skills and experience in managing and archiving project files.
Ability and willingness to quickly adapt to new technologies.
Occasional weekend and evening work is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Web design and social media strategy.
Knowledge of animation.

Compensation: $74,100-$88,200
