Job Description

General Overview

Under general direction; plans and develops information releases and special programs to project favorable public awareness and the expediting of inter/intra agency communications. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skins, knowledge and abilities listed below.

Baccalaureate degree in graphic arts, with supplemental coursework in journalism or communications, or public relations, plus three (3) years of progressive responsibility in computer design and layout of publications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of graphic art design; manual layout work and computer assist graphic art programs; working knowledge of video, still photography, and voice recording production. Ability to communicate effectively; maintain a working relationship with officials, vendors, and the general public; write and/or edit articles for publication; lead others. Skilled in use of graphic art programs, including Adobe CC applications, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; manual layout work; personal computer.

Job Duties

The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.

  • Performs preliminary needs analysis (job request interview); develops and completes draft layout and design (e.g., conceptual design) using computer assist graphic programs, scanners, etc. for presentation review and final approval of content; conducts pre-production agency review.

  • Contributes to the development, preparation, proofing and issuing of news releases, educational displays, programs, materials and/or speaking presentations, publications, articles, and/or newsletters.

  • Assists in the production of videos, still photography, and sound recording support functions; evaluates, revises and/or assists with development of new programs, methods, and the dissemination of information; performs other related duties and assignments as required.

  • Serves as lead worker for lower level public relations support staff and other assigned project staff, engaged in a segment of the department's overall public information program.

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
