Position Summary

The Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Creative Services in the Office of University Communications. The office advances the mission, reputation and goals of Elon University by leading the planning, creation and implementation of marketing materials, public and media relations initiatives, and digital and strategic communications. The office is responsible for the university's brand identity, messaging, processes and policies. In collaboration with our internal clients, we provide innovative and strategic solutions that help university divisions and departments achieve their goals and objectives.

The Graphic Designer works closely with internal clients to produce a wide range of high-quality print and digital marketing materials. The position executes on design projects through strategy to implementation, working with the marketing team to ensure Elon's visual identity is presented consistently in support of the university's vision and its departmental goals.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree in Graphic Design, Fine Art or related field. Strength of candidate's Portfolio might be used as substitute of education to assess appropriate skill mastery and esthetic qualities.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Art or associated field.

Job Duties

• CREATIVE SERVICES - Responsible for conceptualization and implementation of design solutions that meet marketing objectives for print publications.

• Follows each job through its lifecycle to ensure an accurate and polished final product. This includes ensuring project is printed accurately by reviewing proofs and attending press checks when necessary.

• Executes on brand platform, developing creative systems for university sub-brands under the guidance of the Director of Creative Services.

• Interacts with clients to gain a strong understanding of marketing goals and objectives.

• Produces collateral to support the marketing priorities of the university, such as the alumni magazine, recruitment materials, digital content marketing pieces, brochures, direct mail, comprehensive fundraising campaigns, etc.

• Supports Elon's web, marketing communications and social media teams with digital marketing design integration, such as ads, digital graphics, infographics, email design, landing pages, GIF graphics, etc.

• ADMINISTRATIVE/PLANNING SUPPORT

• Engages in strategic planning and weekly update meetings in partnership with UC colleagues.

• Attends project meetings to brainstorm and discuss projects goals and deliverables timelines.

• Works with marketing communications team to provide art direction during photo shoots.

• Gives presentations when needed to demonstrate how a design solution is meeting objectives.
