CLASS DESCRIPTION

Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking a talented and creative Part-Time Graphic Designer with a flair for copywriting to join our special events team. This role will be responsible for producing visually compelling and on-brand design assets across various mediums, while also contributing to the development of engaging written content. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for design, a passion for storytelling, and the ability to seamlessly integrate visuals and words to convey impactful messages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Create visually appealing design assets for both print and digital platforms, including but not limited to social media graphics, marketing collateral, and promotional materials.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver designs that align with brand guidelines.

  • Stay updated on design trends and best practices to ensure the continuous improvement of our visual identity.

  • Develop creative and compelling written content that aligns with brand messaging and objectives.

  • Collaborate with the marketing and communication team to create copy for various channels, including website content, social media posts, email campaigns, and more.

  • Ensure consistency in tone, style, and messaging across all written materials.

Work Schedule: This is a part-time position, with flexibility in hours. The expected commitment is roughly 10-15 hours/week, with the possibility of increased hours during peak project periods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in graphic design, Communication, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have two plus years of experience in graphic design and copywriting roles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proven experience as a graphic designer with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects.

  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

  • Strong copywriting skills with the ability to craft engaging and concise messages.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.

  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for aesthetics and design principles.

  • Familiarity with marketing principles and an understanding of how design and copy contribute to overall brand strategy.
