FPWA, a leading anti-poverty organization fighting for economic equity for all New Yorkers, seeks an experienced and dynamic Grant Writer to be an essential member of a vital institutional giving team that manages all foundation and government support for FPWA. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Giving.

The ideal candidate is a go-getter, passionate about people, justice, and equity for all. They are constantly searching for a better answer to big questions, are energized by engaging with others, value mutual respect in discourse, and have a natural curiosity about how to achieve goals and higher aspirations. They will have a clear and demonstrated passion for communicating FPWA's work through their writing, participating in the program development process, engaging and deepening the relationship with FPWA's funders, and expanding the universe of our funders. The Grant Writer will have a commitment to social justice, and deep experience communicating mission for the purpose of engendering investment and engagement. The preferred candidate has lived experience (preferably in NYC) and can inform the work of the organization from the perspective of those experiences.

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of select portfolio of private foundation, corporate foundation, and government funders from writing letters of inquiry and proposals to maintaining accurate records.
  • Manage the grants calendar ensuring proposal and report deadlines are met.
  • Work with program colleagues to develop strategy for advancing work to be pitched.
  • Work closely with Director on annual income projection, preparing statistical reports, and evaluating trends; work together to develop annual workplan, helping to establish benchmarks for the year.
  • Manage prospecting efforts for institutional funders with advisement from Director. Undertake ongoing, strategic efforts throughout the year to identify new prospective funders for identified body of work to be pitched.
  • Develop systems, policies and processes to ensure efficient operation of an effective institutional giving effort; recommend new and innovative tools and processes to further FPWAs institutional giving capacity.
  • Assist with special events and complete other relevant tasks as assigned by Director.


  • BA/BS required and minimum two (2) years of nonprofit grant writing experience.
  • Superior writing and communications skills, with an emphasis on proposal writing for funding and excellent donor relations skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal skills. Ability to recognize and tell a story.
  • A creative thinker, strategist and do-er who has a proven track record of developing creative ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of funders and achieve financial results; knowledge of foundation and corporate giving is a must.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills as it relates to creating logic models for proposals.
  • Experience collaborating on program design and outcomes and integrating funders' interests into approaches.
  • Experience working with fundraising databases; knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.

Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Grants Manager to join our Grants and Contracts team. We are a unit of the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA). We manage the pre-award administration of research grants and contracts funded by federal, state, and private agencies. You will: * Be responsible for providing customer-focused support to investigators by managing day-to-day activities associated with pre-award and non-financial post-award management of sponsored research proposals and awards. This includes, but is not limited to government, non-government and other sponsors. * Authorize and submit proposals to external sponsors on behalf of MSK's Authorized Organizational Representative. * Act as a consultant for MSK faculty on matters related to the management of their grants portfolio. * Serve as the primary institutional liaison between MSK and external sponsors. Coordinate with other central offices and collaborating sites on behalf of investigators to support coordinated management of their grants portfolio. * Ensure institutional compliance with federal, state, agency and other applicable governing regulations, policies and procedures concerning sponsored research You are: * Self-motivated, willing to take action, demonstrated ability to establish relationships, prioritize and multi-task on parallel projects. * Customer-focused and interested in collaboration. * Able to adapt to ambiguous situations and produce results. Lead high priority projects. * Adept at planning and prioritizing to work within tight timeframes and meet deadlines. * A communicator with strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals. * Effectively engage stakeholders in challenging or deadline-oriented situations. * Demonstrates strong initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision. You have: * 4-7 years' experience in a related field, research administration environment preferred, performing duties similar to the above. 7-10 years of directly related experience may be substituted for the degree. * Bachelor's Degree preferred * Knowledge of NIH application requirements and policy regulations * Familiarity with web-based submission software (e.g. Cayuse) preferred. * Reading and interpreting funding opportunity announcements or similar. * Demonstrated knowledge of the pre-award grant submission process.
