The City of Elgin is accepting applications for the position of Grant Specialist in the City Manager's Office. The city seeks a candidate who will contribute to shaping Elgin's future and making a tangible difference in the community through their expertise in grant management.
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in researching, writing, and administering grants to support transformative projects in the community, ranging from infrastructure projects like lead service line replacement to securing funding for the city's most popular special events. This role involves liaising with Federal, State, and private funders to ensure compliance with grant regulations while collaborating with various city departments.
The selected candidate will be tasked with managing multiple grants concurrently, meeting deadlines, and maintaining meticulous records. The ideal candidate will possess experience in managing state and federal grants, including reporting and monitoring. Key Responsibilities
Research and identify available grants, requirements, and submission deadlines for which the city is eligible.
Collaborate with city staff to evaluate grant-eligible needs and prepare comprehensive grant applications for funding various city programs and projects.
Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports detailing grant expenditures.
Conduct research, compile, and summarize various informational and statistical data and materials.
Effectively organize workload, prioritize tasks, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments independently.
Demonstrate proficiency in rapidly entering and retrieving data, exercising tact, discretion, initiative, and judgment within established guidelines.
Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to comprehend and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, and government regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
Proficiency in grant administration principles and practices, financial management, accounting, budgeting, proposal development, and grant writing is essential. Familiarity with relevant state, federal, and local regulations is desired.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate information effectively and work with minimum direct supervision.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
Minimum of two years of experience in grant writing, with a proven track record of successfully obtaining grants, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Preferred experience in grant writing for public sector organizations.
Applicants must be able to provide the following documents: a writing sample, a list of successful grant awards, and a sample abstract for a funded grant.
