General Information:

James Madison University is accepting applications for a Grants Specialist to support JMU's mission and the goals of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by managing and delivering grant funds in a timely manner and promoting student learning by educating students about financial aid policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP) program, the College Transfer Grant (CTG) program, and all non-Virginia state grant programs. This includes certifying rosters, verifying eligibility according to program requirements, and coordinating disbursements with the University Business Office.

Serves as primary point of contact for the Office of International Programs. Establishes budgets for studies abroad participants in James Madison University sponsored programs and adjusts financial aid packages accordingly. Counsels students and parents about financial aid policies and procedures pertaining to studies abroad.

Counsels students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid. Demonstrates a broad understanding of financial aid policies and procedures. Helps with Phone Service.

Manages the summer financial aid email box.

Develops and implements new policies and procedures and update existing ones to further utilize technological advances and address the changing needs of the out-of-state grant and non-discretionary Virginia grant programs.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of federal and state policies in relation to student financial assistance

  • Fluency in the Windows computer operating environment and Microsoft Office, with a particular focus on Word and Excel

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Student Information System is beneficial, but not required

  • Good typing/data entry skills

  • Polished telephone and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Attention to detail

Conditions of Employment:
