Grants Administrator

The George Mason University Office of Sponsored Programs seeks to hire a dynamic and collaborative individual for a Grants Administrator position. Responsibilities:

The Grants Administrator facilitates and coordinates with university faculty, departments, and central offices to ensure the successful administration of externally sponsored funding. The areas of responsibility include proposal development, award setup, review of compliance requirements, rebudgeting, sponsor requests for prior approval, and problem resolution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations related to grants and contracts;

  • Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to sponsored research;

  • Experienced with budget development;

  • Experienced with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements;

  • Willingness to maintain knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies;

  • Ability to manage high-volume and complex transactions;

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Ability to be detail-oriented and to multitask; and

  • Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of the United States,

  • A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder),

  • A person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or

  • A person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field of study, is strongly preferred;

  • Candidates with a CRA (Certified Research Administrator) certification are further preferred;

  • Experience in a university or nonprofit setting is highly desirable;

  • Computer skills that include experience with Microsoft Office, financial management systems, and electronic grant administration is highly desirable; and

  • Experience in a team environment is highly desirable.

To learn more about the College of Science visit https://science.gmu.edu/ Responsibilities: The Grants and Finance Analyst position serves a role of mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with university, state and federal laws and regulations; budget availability; accurate financial reporting and forecasting of data and expenditures related to department/centers, faculty and students within the assigned COS units and programs. Working collaboratively with other analysts, the incumbent manages complex financial activities on large sponsored projects within the COS Dean's Office and participates in efforts to improve finance-related processes. The incumbent guides Principal Investigators as well as departmental staff to ensure compliance on expenditure and revenue activities (Sponsored Projects funds, Indirect orgs, E&G and Foundation orgs) for the assigned COS units. Other responsibilities include: * Independently supports the research and E&G activities (labor, including temp appointments, and direct expenditures) for the assigned research centers and instructional units; * Advises Center Directors and PI's to appropriately use funds and allocate effort within budget and project period; * Proactively forecasts spending and provide reports to sponsors, Directors, PIs, and supervisor; * Reconciles all assigned Sponsored Project Funds and orgs, including indirect, E&G and Foundation orgs; * Provides required reports to the Principal Investigator, directors, and funding agencies; * Generates regular internal reports; and * Ensures that signature cards are completed properly and up to date. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Experience with sponsored project management, OMB Uniform Guidance, and related best practices; * Ability to collaborate and work closely with other staff members and faculty; * Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously; * Strong organizational skills.
