The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying, researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals that support existing and planned energy program solutions. This individual serves as the primary grant writer, manages funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. The Grant Writer will collaborate with internal departments to gather necessary information, reports, and data, and to write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals. This position requires strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills, with an emphasis on outcome measurement. The Grant Writer should be a dedicated, motivated, and energetic team-player, driven to develop relationships with key stakeholders and community partners to further the sustainable energy mission of the Company.

This position is an onsite position located in Frisco, TX with some, but limited, remote work. Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional work outside of normal business hours may be required to attend meet deadlines, attend conferences, seminars, and networking events. This is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the employee is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Essential Functions

  • Lead grant proposal research, development, and submission.

  • Preparing and organizing materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications, including:

  • Researching new funding and business development opportunities on a local, state, and federal level;

  • Research and write high-quality, compelling grant proposal narratives in accordance with each grant-making organization's specific preferences and guidelines;

  • Drafting proposals, LOIs, grant application narratives, and budgets;

  • Submitting grant applications via paper or online portals, and maintaining a resource database;

  • Collaborate with executives, department heads, and staff to acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of the Company's history, operations, and programs;

  • Meeting with funders and staff to explore opportunities and fulfill site visit requirements;

  • Maintaining master calendar of grants and prospects along with associated files and correspondence;

  • Develop an annual grants strategy, including marketing of agency programs and furnishing prospective funders with supporting documentation and marketing materials.

  • Maintaining library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, etc.;

  • Prepares presentations by assembling and overseeing the printing and digital presentation of proposals, including text and graphics;

  • Facilitate grant contracts and/or agreements; and

  • Maintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant budgets.

Take responsibility for meeting high standards of effectiveness, timeliness, and completeness, including:

  • Monitoring and maintaining funder and investor reporting schedules and requirements;

  • Tracking progress toward organizational and programmatic outcomes and goals;

  • Requesting reimbursements and drawdowns as needed;

  • Drafting compelling progress reports and targeted program updates to funders that fully capture programmatic success; and

  • Assembling all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.; submit reports to funders and investors.

  • Researching statistics, trends and data for grant proposals and community advocacy, including:

  • Performing research and data-gathering from external sources and program data;

  • Review and analyze data concerning agency programs to determine progress and effectiveness, and to make recommendations for changes in procedures, guidelines, or methods to better accomplish program and grant objectives';

  • Assisting in development of presentations for various stakeholders; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Four (4) year college degree required;

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a grant writer;

  • Exceptional writing skills, including a thorough understanding of proper grammar, spelling, vocabulary, syntax, punctuation, tone, and style;

  • Expert-level attention to detail, with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of grants, fundraising, and marketing methods;

  • Ability to research, interpret, manage, and analyze diverse data;

  • Superior interpersonal communication skills, including networking, relationship management, and sales skills;

  • Outgoing, charismatic personality. Ability to get along with a diverse population professionally and to network with prospective funders/grantors/donors effectively;

  • Proficient with computers, including the internet, Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and grants/fundraising and donor management software;

  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize workload appropriately;

  • Ability to multi-task, use independent judgment, and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints;

  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines without sacrificing quality.
