We are currently seeking a Grant Writer who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, oversee the development of and compliance with federal, state, and private grants, and make appropriate decisions regarding grant development and administration.



Required: Bachelors Degree


Four (4) years experience in successful grant development and monitoring in the field of economic and workforce development, education, or related fields.


  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of grant proposal writing and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of grant writing resources, information sources, monitoring, and compliance procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal funding sources and governmental agencies involved in education.
  • Awareness of challenges of student success and retention in the community college.
  • Ability to read and comprehend governmental rules, regulations, RFP guidelines, and legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prepare successful grant proposals.
  • Analyze, evaluate and recommend innovative solutions to district priorities and goals.
  • Organize effectively to work under pressure to meet district, college, and proposal deadlines.
  • Ability to reconcile divergent views.
  • Ability to negotiate with funding agents and follow-up on progress of grant activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all segments of the district, community, and public.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Work as a member of the Colleges development team in targeting grant funding opportunities that support external funding for Strategic Plan initiatives.
  • Proactively identify, assess the feasibility of research and pursue public and private grant opportunities that match the mission and strategic plan of AC.
  • Develop and write proposals, case statements, letters of inquiry and other correspondence to government agencies, foundations, corporations and other national and regional entities for submission through web-based portals, email and mail.
  • Facilitate the work of grant project development teams including faculty, staff and external partners (when applicable) in the completion of grant proposals.
  • Negotiate agreements and budgets with grant project development teams.
  • Ensure fiscal compliance and manage accurate reporting through collaboration with faculty, staff, project coordinates, external partners, Grants Administration staff and AC Business Affairs.
  • Research, compile and analyze data and identify trends and best practices within community colleges, higher education, workforce development and other relevant fields.
  • Ensure compliance with all pre and post-grant policies and procedures.
  • Prepare proposals (research, writing, budgets, and ancillary materials, etc.) to accomplish external funding supporting Strategic Plan initiatives and collaborate with AC personnel on creating grant/contract proposals supporting College initiatives.
  • Publish the grants and contracts target list annually; maintain and updates information for the Resource Development Clearinghouse.
  • Secure appropriate approvals for grants, contracts, etc.
  • Ensure that any site visits for monitoring or audits relevant to grants/contracts meet expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness to ensure that all outcomes/evaluation data is provided.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets). Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.

Travel Expectations: Some travel may be required for this position.

Salary: Aligned with the current published salary scale for the represented position grade, commensurate with experience.
