CLASS DESCRIPTION
The Baltimore City Health Department is seeking a COVID-19 Mobile Vaccine Team (MVT) Community Health Worker (CHW) to assist in the planning and execution of COVID-19 mobile vaccine clinics in the community. The Community Health Worker will provide public health outreach services to communities and perform non-clinical operational roles of mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinics. This position will require community visits and in-person work at vaccination clinics - reliable transportation is required. In order to meet the needs of Baltimore City residents and reach people where and when they are available, this position will be expected to work at least 2 weekend days/clinics per month, and at least 2 evening or early morning days/clinics per month. Flex time will be offered for hours outside the standard working hours. Travel reimbursement will be provided for mileage or car share from the home office location. Based on the progression of the COVID-19 response, the position responsibilities may shift from direct support of COVID-19 mobile vaccination clinics to include other aspects of community engagement, outreach, and education as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform non-clinical roles in support of COVID-19 mobile vaccine events, including but not limited to:
Set up and break down of mobile vaccination sites, including equipment, supplies and signage.
Patient registration and other administrative or clerical needs
Providing basic health education around COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccines
Directing flow of people through clinical spaces
Promoting and enforcing COVID-19 safety protocols
Documenting and tracking supplies and materials.
Timing observation periods for patients
Sanitizing surfaces and maintaining a clean and safe vaccination space
Support pick up and distribution of materials and supplies from BCHD warehouse or other locations.
Conduct canvassing, outreach, and educational events to vulnerable communities across Baltimore to promote COVID-19 vaccination and mitigation strategies.
Register patients for COVID-19 vaccination using the preferred BCHD computer platform.
Track clinic data and patient rosters while ensuring appropriate data confidentiality and protections.
Provide appointment reminders and follow-up with clients over the phone.
Participate in program trainings and workgroups as needed.
Assist with other community outreach tasks and community education events as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Community Health Worker Certification is preferred.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience providing community health promotion, outreach, or services or working in a home or community setting is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong computer literacy skills, specifically with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint (MS Office 365).
Strong understanding of and sensitivity to Baltimore City communities and experience with working with diverse populations. Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.
