Hennepin County's Grants Management and Administration department is seeking a Grant Operations Coordinator to join their team. This position provides project development and implementation for the organization's grant management and administration functions. As the organization moves toward a federated model for managing/administering grants, there is a need for effective grant operations, management, and delivery of services to communities. This position works across the organization to administer and manage grants, resolve organizational grant issues, and establish best practices and standardization. The purpose of this position is to ensure grants are administered and managed equitably and effectively, consistent with state and federal requirements, and in alignment with the organization's mission, values, and goals.

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 625 Fourth Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

In this position, you will:

  • Manage grant programs, vendors/grantees, compliance requirements, and funds to achieve program objectives and goals to further strengthen the organization's mission, values, and goals, consistent with state and federal requirements.

  • Develop, implement, track program performance measures and strategic planning activities, and operationalize grant projects to ensure optimal performance, compliance, and outcomes.

  • Oversee projects that have interdepartmental/organization wide impact.

  • Support and advance priorities that invest in disparities reduction, eliminate inequities, and create opportunity for all.

  • Commit to disparity reduction through creating and strengthening policies, services and programs in the areas of connectivity, health, income, housing, employment, education, and justice.

  • Ensure internal controls are established and implemented.

  • Work in partnership with program staff and subject matter experts to ensure program deliverables are tracked and achieved.

  • Monitor and report on programmatic and financial progress and performance; address and follow up financial concerns and budget issues.

  • Complete and review project evaluations, contract evaluations, and project/program measures.

  • Establish best practices and uniform approach to grant project management.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:

  • Nine years or more experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and five years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in government systems.

  • Experience managing large grants and/or providing oversight to grants.

About the department:

Grants Management & Administration (GMA) leads the planning and coordination of county-wide grant development opportunities, establishes and directs the implementation of grant policies and procedures, and provides guidance, consultation, and advice on grant administration and management for the county. GMA is responsible for:

  • Establishing organization-wide grants efforts.

  • Directing operations that the support the organization's grant administration and management functions.

  • Designing and implementing lean processes for administering and managing grants to further build capacity and strengthen skills, knowledge, and experience.

  • Supporting and providing guidance on grants to ensure optimal performance, compliance, and outcomes to reduce disparities and improve services to communities.

  • Coordinating and managing interdepartmental grant projects to ensure the organization achieves its mission, values, and goals.
