Job Purpose: The Grant Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the Improving Soil Health in Potato Supply Chains RCPP (Regional Conservation Partnership Program) project led by McCain Foods. This 5-year project provides technical and financial support for potato growers in Maine and Wisconsin to build and execute regenerative soil health improvement plans on their farms. The Project Coordinator will have several strategic accountabilities, which include overseeing overall project execution, collaborating with the NRCS (National Resources Conservation Service) offices in both states to ensure project compliance, working directly with growers to support the application process and ongoing data collection process, managing our network of external project partners, and scouting and applying for new state and federal grants for McCain growers in the United States. This role requires a deep understanding of agricultural sustainability, project management, grant writing, grant administration, as well as effective communication and networking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1.NRCS RCPP Project Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact with NRCS offices in Wisconsin and Maine, maintaining a strong working relationship and ensuring compliance with NRCS regulations.
Prepare and submit all necessary documentation for project reimbursement to NRCS.
Monitor project progress and provide regular reports to NRCS on key milestones and outcomes.
Ensure that participating producers meet all NRCS qualifications and standards.
Facilitate communication between McCain Foods and NRCS to address any project-related issues or concerns.
2.Project and Partner Management:
Work closely with the network of project partners, including soil health experts, agronomists, and field representatives, to ensure effective project development and implementation.
Manage project budgets and allocations.
Oversee project development, including planning, designing, and execution of soil health management practices.
Maintain clear and organized project documentation, including paperwork related to project partners, contracts, and agreements.
Collaborate with the McCain field teams responsible for working directly with producers, providing guidance, and resolving issues.
Support the development of educational materials and training programs for growers.
Ensure all project-related tasks and deadlines are met by project partners.
Support growers in the annual application process.
3.Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare regular project reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain accurate records of project activities, expenses, and budgets.
Collaborate with the Agriculture & Sustainability team in creating comprehensive project reports for funding organizations and stakeholders.
Speak publicly at state and national conferences about the project
4.Identify and Deliver New Financial Resources/Partnerships
Research and network to identify new sources of financial support for McCain's agronomy and sustainability programs
Build a pipeline of local, state, and federal grant opportunities and maintain the data-set
Apply for priority grants where McCain is eligible as an entity, including coordinating third party grant writers and consultants where appropriate
Build out systems and capabilities for connecting and enabling growers to apply directly for grant opportunities where McCain is not eligible as an entity
Key Qualifications and Experiences:
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Political Science, or related field.
Proven experience in project management, especially in the agriculture or sustainability sector.
Proven experience with grant writing and administration preferred.
Experience working with USDA and NRCS granting programs preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in digital tools for analysis, planning, and reporting.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
