Position Title: Grant Assistant

Location: Arlington, VA

Education: Associates Degree or Two years of college level coursework in business communications, English, journalism or related area.

Job Complexity and Knowledge:

  • Provides support to government technical and management-level personnel. Support includes, but is not limited to receipt, logging, and analysis of proposals and recommended actions forwarded from program. This includes reviewing for completeness and ensuring that the request conforms to statues, policies and a variety of guidelines. Identifies errors and coordinates with program offices, awardee institutions, other federal agencies or other points of contact to correct.

  • Assists in the coordination and performance of a varied of matters in the Division's pre-award review process.

  • Assists in the coordination of the flow of proposals, cooperative and inter-agency agreements.

  • Provides assistance and support needed to ensure timely responses to requests for approvals, administrative processing of expired grants and cooperative agreements, closeout actions and other similar request for information or documents related to award or administration of NSF Grants and Agreements.

  • Assists in the review and coordination of acceptance document for incoming inter agency agreements.

  • Assist in the resolution of complex, technical and administrative problems that involve proposals and other management issues.

  • Provides assistance and support in reviewing special payment requests, expenditure limitations, and creating or maintaining tracking spreadsheets for such actions.

  • Performs a variety of administrative functions as needed to include monitoring incoming and outgoing mail, ta king calls from the DGA main phone line, and special projects.

  • Assist in the analysis of recipients proposed costs to determine whether they are reasonable and allowable. This includes but not limited to documenting, writing, research and editing per standardized guidelines.


  • Experience performing the duties described above may be substituted for the degree requirement or college level coursework on a year for year basis.

  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance and punctuality.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Competent computer and typing skills with experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and familiarity with presentation software.

  • Possess the ability to learn and apply knowledge of all pertinent federal, state and local regulations.

  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The Assistant Patient Care Director is responsible for direction of the nursing unit(s) in coordination with the Patient Care Director in concert with the goals of that unit according to the philosophy of the Division of Patient care Services. The responsibility includes unit administration, direct nursing care and coordinating activities with ancillary departments. The assistant patient care director reports to the patient care director. An advanced competency level, knowledge of the nursing process, and consistently meeting or exceeding all criteria of the staff nurse performance appraisal tool is expected of the Assistant Patient Care Director. Responsibilities * Manages a caseload of patient while serving as a resource to other member of the health care team. * Functions independently as charge nurse demonstrating outstanding problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills. * Implements, monitors, and evaluates quality standards of nursing practice within the specific nursing unit. * Initiates, implements, evaluates QA/CQI program and implements change according to results in coordination with PCD. * Patient Satisfaction results and suggests strategies to maintain as well as improve patient/customer satisfaction. * Assesses patient satisfaction through informal network i.e feedback from patient, family and physicians. Plans and implements activities based on these results. * Monitors and ensures nursing practice in conjunction with PCD is in accordance with the guidelines set by the regulatory agencies. * Keeps PCD informed of department activities, needs and problems. * Manages routine and unscheduled maintenance of CVOR equipment. Qualifications * Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required * Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred * 1 year of Healthcare/Medical-Nursing/Patient Care experience required * 1 year of Demonstrated leadership ability required * Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing required * Certification in Area of Clinical Specialty Virginia Hospital Center Arlington VA
